In order to achieve this operation, the pulse modulator and the pulse wave radar device of the present invention differentiate a pulse from a pulse generating circuit so as to generate a differentiated wave with narrow width, and switch an oscillated wave from an oscillating circuit according to the differentiated wave so as to output a modulated pulse wave with narrow pulse width.

It also includes a control section for controlling the maintenance unit so as to be converted to a masking state which becomes a head maintenance disabling state when an image is formed, and for controlling the maintenance unit so as to be converted to a non-masking state which becomes a head maintenance enabling state after securing a non-irradiating state in which the ultraviolet rays are not irradiated on the maintenance unit, by a function provided by a unit other than the maintenance unit when the head maintenance is performed.

The pulse wave radar device according to the invention controls the amplification degree of the receiving circuit downward at the time of measuring an object at a short distance immediately after transmission of the transmitting pulse wave and upward with time for measuring an object at a long distance by increasing the amplification degree of the receiving circuit progressively with the elapse of time after transmission of the transmitting pulse wave.
