    Abstract: Systems, methods, and processing nodes are configured to manage transmission characteristics in a wireless network, such as a wireless network that employs MIMO techniques, by identifying an undesired signal, the undesired signal originating from a communication device external to the wireless network and determining that a signal parameter value of the undesired signal exceeds a threshold value. An operating parameter of a multi-element antenna for communicating signals in the wireless network is adjusted when it is determined that the signal parameter value exceeds a threshold value.

    Abstract: Systems, methods, and processing nodes for obtaining radio network characteristics associated with network traffic, determining a type of network traffic and/or network session, allocating resources towards a network traffic session based on the type thereof (or type of network traffic), and performing additional network optimization operations based thereon, including but not limited to metering, billing, and service adjustments such as reallocation of resources. Consequently, resource usage patterns of different data types can be made predictable to a network operator, enabling optimal allocation of network resources, adjustments of latency, and thus providing an optimal user experience.

    Abstract: Interference caused between neighboring access nodes deploying wireless air-interface resources in different frame configurations while using the same frequency sub-band is mitigated by modifying the subframes deployed by a first access node by muting the subframes in the first frame configuration. Wireless resources from a different frequency sub-band can be aggregated towards the interfering subframes. A third access node adjacent to the first access node may deploy wireless resources in the first frame configuration and using the second frequency sub-band. A determination of how to reconfigure the interfering subframes is based on numbers of wireless devices in potential interference zones between each access node.

    Abstract: A method for distributing music to a wireless communication device such as cellular telephone is provided. The method includes the step of providing a subscription service for the device, wherein the subscription service allows the device to download up to N music recordings onto the device from an on-line music content distribution site or sites, where N is an integer greater than one. The music is provided with restrictions designed to prevent effective transport of the music recordings off of the device in digital form such that the recordings cannot be played on other digital devices of any kind. The subscription service allows that the device may play the downloaded music recordings an unlimited number of plays. The subscription service also allows that the device may swap one music recording for another music recording, and may have a maximum number (S) of swaps in a given period. The service further includes billing the subscriber associated with the device a fee for the music subscription service. The values for N and S may be user configurable. The billing may also depend on the values of N and S.

    Abstract: Performing inter-band carrier aggregation based on device capability includes monitoring a dominant type of wireless devices in a wireless sector based on whether or not they are capable of inter-band carrier aggregation, and enabling or disabling inter-band carrier aggregation in the sector based on the dominant type. Enabling/disabling inter-band carrier aggregation can include allowing or preventing usage of usage of a low-frequency carrier as a primary component carrier aggregated with a high-frequency carrier as a secondary component carrier.
