A machine for harvesting and decorticating ramie plants is shown in the form of a wheeled vehicle using an adjustable sickle bar or rotary blades located in the front of the machine for selecting the mature stalks. A series of entry points are provided for the plants, wherein the uniformly cut stalks travel back falling on an apron at a 45.degree. angle for the first decorticating butt drum. A leaf stripper strips any leaves left at the stalks just before the butt decorticator drum. The second decorticating drum has helically arrayed bars on its exterior surface, operably disposed adjacent a machined surface located on a first leg of a generally U-shaped breast plate, such that the interaction of the bars with the breast plate removes unusable portions of the plants adjacent the upper ends and frees the ramie fibers. The third decorticating drum is operably disposed adjacent the machined surface located on the second leg of the U-shaped breast plate, for further removal of unusable plant portions from the ramie fibers resulting in clean decorticated fibers rather than ribboned fibers. Water is sprayed onto the stalks at point of entry into the third drum which facilitates the decortication and cleaning of the fiber being pulled out of the drum.

A machine that attaches to a tractor is structured to reap, blind, and shock mature sesame plants. The machine is capable of engaging two rows of plants simultaneously, the two stalkways merging into one prior to the tying mechanism. Each row of plants is severed at the base by a pair of disc cutters. The cut stalks are moved rearwardly in an upright position by vertically disposed conveyor belts having fingers attached thereto to grasp the stalks. The stalks from both stalkways are gathered at a first tying station having two tying mechanisms which ties them into bundles. The bundles are moved rearwardly on a horizontal conveyor belt to a second tying station having one tyer where the bundles are gathered and tied together into stacks of optimum size. The stacks, comprising about five bundles each, slide down a ramp to engage the stubble of the cut sesame plants. The stacks stand upright on the ground thereafter to dry naturally.

The processing machine can comprise:—a self-propelling vehicle;—a seed part removing unit which is mounted on the self-propelling vehicle and is configured to remove seed parts (such as bolls) from the fibre plants to be picked;—a picking unit which is mounted on the vehicle and is configured to pick fibre plants from which seed parts have been removed, wherein the picking unit is further configured to transport the picked fibre plants to the conveyor of the self-propelling vehicle. The seed part removing unit can for instance be a stripper for stripping the seed parts from the fibre plants.

The present disclosure discloses a method for producing raw cotton of machine-harvested long-staple cotton with a modal length of greater than or equal to 35 mm, including the steps: planting sea-island long-staple cotton and machining seed cotton, wherein planting the sea-island long-staple cotton includes preparation before machine harvesting, defoliation and ripening, choosing a cotton variety, etc.; and machining the seed cotton includes preparation before seed cotton ginning, mechanical separation of cotton seeds and raw cotton, and finishing the separated raw cotton. Raw cotton fibers obtained by the method of the present disclosure have main quality indexes that: a fiber length is 36.5-38.4 mm, a specific strength is 42.3-46.1 cN/tex, a uniformity is 86.2-87.0%, a foreign-fiber content is 0.2-0.4 g/t, and an impurity content is 2.6-3.4%. According to the method, not only can impurities and foreign fibers be effectively removed, but also mechanical damage to the raw cotton of the machine-harvested long-staple cotton with the modal length of greater than or equal to 35 mm is relatively small.
