A method for manufacturing filaments for personal hygiene articles is described. The filaments are provided with a surface structure with at least one surface recess such as dimples and/or pittings. The filament includes at least a portion made of a material soluble by a corrosive agent and is covered in part with a cover layer stable to the corrosive agent such that a surface portion of the filament body substantially corresponding to the at least one surface recess is uncovered. The filament body is contacted with the corrosive agent for a limited time to create the surface recess in the uncovered surface portion.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of tapering a toothbrush bristle which increases production efficiency. The method includes the steps of cutting bundles of toothbrush bristles; and non-directionally immersing the entire cut bundles of toothbrush bristles into a chemical solution to taper both sides of the toothbrush bristles. According to the present invention, the production efficiency of a needle-shaped bristle is increased approximately three times, and the loss of raw materials is greatly decreased because several processes are not performed.

The present invention provides a method of tapering bristles for toothbrushes and a toothbrush having bristles manufactured using the method. One method disclosed in the present invention includes setting bristles made of polyester in a head insert, and fastening the bristles to the head insert by thermally welding portions of the bristles, protruding from a back surface of the head insert, to the head insert. The method further includes coupling the head insert to a toothbrush body and tapering ends of the bristles by immersing the bristles in a chemical. The bristles can be securely set in the toothbrush body without an anchor. Furthermore, polyester bristles, which could not be set in toothbrushes having variously shaped setting rows due to excessively high stiffness, can be set in these types of toothbrush by the toothbrush manufacturing method of the present invention.

A process and apparatus are provided for executing profiling trimming cuts in the bristle fields of toothbrushes. In order to process the fibers separately in different regions of the bristle field, and particularly to shorten them by means of a straight cutter or a level grinding disk, the fibers in the bristle field regions that are not to be contacted by the processing tool, are held at a distance from the processing plane of a processing tool by means of a lateral deflection of the free fiber ends in the longitudinal direction of the respective bristle field region. If the process is employed in several steps, in which respective fibers from various bristle field regions are to be processed, almost any desired profile cross-section can be created in the bristle field, not only in the longitudinal direction but in the transverse direction as well. Processing at each processing stage can thereby be accomplished with straight processing tools, for example with straight cutters. It is thus possible to dispense with the use of expensive profile cutters.

A process for tapering synthetic fibers at the end portion thereof comprising the steps of inserting synthetic fibers into a supersonic vibration-given etching liquid to an extent that only the end portion of the fibers is immersed therein, withdrawing the fibers from the supersonic vibration-given etching liquid and then washing the treated fibers in a supersonic vibration-given washing liquid, the insertion and withdrawal being alternately repeated each at a predetermined velocity. In one embodiment, the etching liquid has abrasive particles suspended therein or an abrasive brush provided therein.
Abstract:
A mechanically tapered bristle filament for an oral care implement. The filament is characterized by a long thin tapered end portion. The tapered end portion has a taper length and tip diameter comparable to chemically tapered filaments. The areal surface roughness of the tapered end portion however is greater than chemically tapered filaments thereby producing increased scrubbing action against the surfaces of the teeth. The foregoing taper and roughness characteristics of the present filament enhance inter-dental cleaning effectiveness.

A brush for cosmetic implements includes a brush part attached to a support member; the brush part includes a plurality of synthetic resin fibers whose tip end has a conically tapered surface, and a plurality of fiber bundles composed of a plurality of synthetic resin fibers is formed at least three places in a radial circumferential surface of the support member, and further formed in an axial direction of the support member. Provided is a brush for a cosmetic implements in which a brush bristle having a tapered end is provided around the support member in the radial direction, and a manufacturing method thereof.
