The present invention provides a layered product, which, when processed into a textile product by sewing, fusing, or the like, overcomes such a practical restriction that a knit must be used on the side to be subjected to a sealing treatment, makes the sealing treatment easier, has intact appearance and touch feeling, and is lightweight. The layered product comprises a flexible film and a woven fabric layered thereon at the side to be subjected to the sealing treatment in processing the layered product into the textile product. A cleaning tape is edge-stabilized using an adhesive that is solvent resistant. The edge-stabilizing adhesive is a one-step cross-linkable formulation of polyvinyl alcohol, ammonium zirconium carbonate, an acetylinic surfactant and a non-silicone defoaming agent. The formulation is applied to the sides of a woven cotton cleaning tape roll and then is allowed to dry and cure. The resulting cleaning tape can be used in a surface buffing operation in which a solvent is applied to the cleaning tape, without contamination of the surface to be buffed by fibers from the tape or by the edge-stabilizing adhesive.

The seam of a surface covering product, having an exposed surface which is the reaction product of a protective coating composition including an aminoplast and a polyol, is coated with a seam coating composition including a cyanoacrylate monomer and a plasticizer. The preferred monomer is methyl 2-cyanoacrylate, ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate or methoxy ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate. The preferred plasticizer is dibutyl phthalate. The seam coating should have a viscosity of about 100 CPS. An accelerator may be applied to the uncured seam coating.

A method and apparatus for forming a longitudinal hem along one edge of a fabric using a hot melt adhesive for securement of the hem. The fabric is advanced along a predetermined path of travel while one longitudinal edge portion of the fabric is directed through an elongate heating chamber and heated to an elevated temperature. The heated edge portion of the fabric then passes through a folding station and the fabric is folded to form a hem. A stream of molten hot melt adhesive is deposited between the overlying fabric layers which define the longitudinal hem and pressure is applied to the hem to cause the molten adhesive to spread and penetrate into the fabric layers and to also prevent relative movement between the fabric layers until the adhesive is sufficiently cooled to secure the hem together.
