A liquid extraction cleaning device comprises a main unit, a liquid pump, a flexible hose, and a hand tool. The main unit comprises a vacuum pump. The hand tool comprises a vacuum inlet port, an agitator, a spray nozzle, and a grip portion. The vacuum inlet port of the hand tool is operatively connected to the vacuum pump via the hose passageway in a manner such that the vacuum pump is capable of drawing fluid through the vacuum inlet port and into the hose passageway. The spray nozzle is operatively connected to the liquid pump in a manner such that the liquid pump is capable of forcing liquid out of the spray nozzle.

An autonomous coverage robot detection system includes an emitter configured to emit a directed beam, a detector configured to detect the directed beam and a controller configured to direct the robot in response to a signal detected by the detector. In some examples, the detection system detects a stasis condition of the robot. In some examples, the detection system detects a wall and can follow the wall in response to the detected signal.

A cleaning apparatus is provided, including a mounting shaft, a base member and a nozzle. The handle includes a connection end, and defines an axis. The base member includes a cleaning portion and a suction portion, where the cleaning portion includes at least one cleaning surface and the suction portion includes at least one suctioning device. A rotation point rotatably joins the connection end of the mounting shaft to the base member, where the base member is rotatable about the axis at the rotation point. The nozzle selectively dispenses a fluid, where the nozzle is positioned in relation to the base member such that at least a portion of the fluid is suctioned by the suctioning device in the base member.

An indoor/outdoor cleaning system includes a portable, pressurized housing for containing cleaning fluids (water, chemicals and mixtures thereof). Multiple hoses connect the interior of the housing with a cleaning wand. The wand includes a handle, a hollow trunk portion and a cleaning head. The multiple hoses have outlets adjacent the cleaning head for feeding water, cleaning chemicals, or surface treating fluids thereto. The outlets open adjacent a cleaning pad, which pad is attached to the cleaning head via a mechanism that allows the pad to vibrate at sonic frequency. A variety of cleaning pad accessories (brush, sponge, sanding pad, buffing pad, etc.) can be optionally attached to the cleaning pad based on the type of surface to be cleaned or treated. A suction conduit, disposed in the cleaning head, functions to draw used fluids away from the surface for safe disposal thereof.

An apparatus and method for cleaning fabrics, floor coverings, and bare floor surfaces utilizing a soil transfer cleaning medium is disclosed. A method of mechanically removing soil from a surface intended to be cleaned includes the steps of successively and repeatedly: wetting a portion of a cleaning medium with a cleaning liquid; extracting any soil and at least some of the cleaning liquid from the previously wetted portion of the cleaning medium; and wiping the surface intended to be cleaned with the portion of the cleaning medium so as to transfer soil from the surface intended to be cleaned to the cleaning medium. Portable and vehicle-based devices may be utilized to practice the method of cleaning.

A rotary scrubber-polisher base has a pair of vacuum liquid pickup attachment supporting mounts mounted from opposite side portions of the base and including laterally outwardly projecting mounting shanks for support of opposite side portions of the attachment therefrom. During periods of non-use of the attachment the latter is removed, but the mounting shanks therefor project outwardly from opposite sides of the scrubber-polisher base and thus prevent those opposite sides from moving into close proximity relative to stationary objects. The mounts are supported from the base in a manner such that they may be readily angularly displaced approximately 90.degree. relative to the base to thereby swing the mounting shanks fully inwardly of the opposite side peripheral portions of the base from which the mounts are supported.
