    摘要: A method, apparatus, and system for optically sorting and/or manipulating carbon nanotubes by creating an optical dipole trap with a focused light source (e.g., a laser) are described in detail herein. In one representative embodiment, light from the light source may be directed onto a mixture of carbon nanotubes, the mixture including a target class of carbon nanotubes having dimensions (e.g., length and diameter) corresponding to particular electronic properties suitable for an application. By identifying a resonant condition corresponding to the target class of carbon nanotubes, and tuning the light source substantially to the resonant condition, an optical dipole trap may be created to attract carbon nanotubes of the target class to allow manipulation and/or sorting of the target class of carbon nanotubes from the mixture, or rotation of the nanotubes via rotation of a plane of polarization of the light, in an embodiment.

    摘要: This invention relates to an apparatus for grading flowers on the basis of the thickness of the stem, wherein each flower stem is passed between a rotatable roller and a restraint. One of these two members is arranged for movement and is urged towards the other member under the influence of a force. The displacement of the rotatable roller resulting from the passage of the flower stem is a measure for the thickness of the stem. The rotatable roller is driven at a peripheral velocity which is approximately equal to the speed of the passing flowers.

    摘要: There is disclosed a preform handling apparatus for orienting and testing a plurality of preforms. The preform handling apparatus of this invention comprises an orienter, an inverter and a tester. The orienter of the preform handling apparatus comprises a base driving mechanism, a rotatable circular disc carried by the base driving mechanism and a retaining wall which extends substantially around the circumference of the disc. An inverter of the present invention comprises two juxtaposed semicircular plates adapted to receive a preform in an upright position and to rotate the preform 180.degree. such that the preform is discharged from the inverter in an inverted position. A tester of the present invention comprises a hub subassembly and a star wheel subassembly for moving preforms along an arcuate path and further comprises a gage subassembly, a cam and a bridge subassembly for detecting defective preforms and preventing defective preforms from being processed into a final product.

    摘要: Fish egg sorting apparatus for separating small eggs from larger eggs comprising a water and egg compartment and a rotated disc partially immersed in the water in the compartment, the disc having a series of tapered holes extending from front to rear faces adjacent the disc periphery. The smaller diameter areas of the tapered holes are capable of holding small eggs in wedged positions therein. Pressurized air streams blow larger eggs out of the holes into a compartment, and blow small eggs out of wedged positions into another compartment. The disc is provided with an annular series of small holes extending through the disc located radially between the axis and periphery of the disc for passage of water from the water and egg compartment to maintain a predetermined level in the compartment. The invention may be embodied in sorting apparatus which separates dead eggs from live eggs before pressurized air is directed against live eggs for separating small eggs from larger eggs by this invention.

The cut flowers are placed on trays which are carried by a continuous conveyor past a programming station that is controlled by an operator. The trays are provided with a mechanical device that rides on a track and holds the tray upright until it arrives at the bin into which the cut flower carried by the tray is to be dumped. The quality flowers are graded into several categories depending upon the stem lengths.
