Abstract:
A diagnostic device for determining an out-of-roundness on wheels of rail vehicles within a specified measuring section, comprising a plurality of force sensors, which are designed to determine forces acting on them and are connected to an evaluating device, wherein the evaluating device is provided for determining the out-of-roundness by integrating a force signal F, which is forwarded by the force sensors over time in order to determine an impulse. A method is also provided for determining an out-of-roundness on wheels of rail vehicles within a specified measurement section, wherein the force signals of at least one force sensor are fed to an evaluating device, the evaluating device detects an impulse, and the evaluating device integrates a force signal over a defined time interval and thereafter uses said force signal to output a result.
Abstract:
Methods for identifying a vehicle using a predetermined location are provided, as well as a radio beacon and an onboard unit for use with the methods. One method comprises: carrying, on the vehicle, an onboard unit that broadcasts status messages that each indicate a current position of the onboard unit and a radio identifier that changes after each or several status messages; receiving at least one status message in a radio beacon; detecting a location usage of the vehicle by evaluating the status message(s) based on the position(s) indicated therein with respect to the predetermined location; transmitting an identification request from the radio beacon to the onboard unit addressed according to the radio identifier from the status message(s); receiving and conducting a legitimacy check of the identification request in the onboard unit and, if the request is legitimate, transmitting an identification of the onboard unit to the radio beacon.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing a call-for-help capability is provided by the invention. The system comprises a central location having a dedicated telephone line having a specified caller identification known to a speakerphone system located in the general location of a person who uses the system for emergency signaling. The person is provided with the speakerphone system and a pendent for generating an emergency signal containing the person's identifier. When received at the central location, a telephone number of the speakerphone system corresponding to the identifier is determined and a telephone call is made on a telephone channel having the specified caller identification. When any call is received by the speakerphone system, its caller identification is examined to determine if the caller identification of the telephone call is the same as the specified caller identification. If so, the telephone line is automatically made to go offhook and the call is directed to a speaker associated with the speakerphone system for hands-free operation. If not, the telephone receiver associated with the speakerphone system is allowed to ring-in in the normal way for manual activation by the person.
Abstract:
A wayside communications safety station is used along rail lines by passengers in distress or crew members, for routine communications among maintenance personnel, and for communications among emergency services personnel. The system comprises a telephone, connectable to a telephone line, to initiate and receive telephone service, and a plurality of manually actuable switches connected to the telephone to initiate a direct dial telephonic signal. At least one voice powered system jack is connectable through the safety station to a voice-powered communications system. A further manually actuable switch is connectable to a direct current traction power control circuit adapted to supply electrical energy to a train, to selectively actuate the control circuit. A safety station additionally includes ability to reset power to the control circuit.
