摘要： A reversible closure system for containers is disclosed. A cap is adapted as a closure that may be reversibly affixed to a container in either a child-resistant configuration or a non-child resistant configuration. An upper portion of the cap is adapted to function in a non-child resistant closure mode, and a lower portion of the cap adapted to function in a child-resistant closure mode. The upper portion of the cap functions in a non-child resistant configuration to secure the cap to the container by inserted engagement of a cylindrical plug section having a side wall provided with threads that mate with corresponding threads on the inner surface of the mouth of the container. An outer skirt is disposed in surrounding relation with the plug section to shield and protect the threads from damage. The lower portion of the cap functions in a child-resistant configuration to secure the cap to the container by engagement of locking lugs on the cap with lug receiving cam structures defined on the outer surface of the container. The cap further includes a resilient insert that functions in the child-resistant mode to provide resilient sealing contact with the upper end of the container without deforming the neck of the container.

摘要： A package made up of a container (30) with a closure assembly (10) applied thereto. The closure assembly has a molded plastic closure element (12) with a top panel (14) and an annular skirt (16) that depends downwardly from the. top panel and surrounds and engages a finish of the container. The closure assembly (10) also has a barrier disc (20) that underlies the top panel, but is out of engagement with a rim (32) of the container (30) when the closure assembly is applied to the container. The closure element has an integral sealing fin (22) with an inner end (24) as a first portion and an outer end (26) as a second portion, and the outer end, as molded, extends inwardly and downwardly from a distal end of the first portion. When the closure assembly is applied to the container, the second portion of the sealing fin is folded back toward the inner end of the sealing fin and engages the rim and a terminal side portion (34) of the finish of the container to form a top and side seal between the closure assembly (10) and the container (30). The outer end of the sealing fin also traps the sealing disc against the underside of the top panel of the closure but out of engagement with the container. The barrier disk disc is molded or fabricated from a material, for example, EVOH or LCP, that has excellent resistance to the permeation of O2 or other gases therethrough, and may have an oxygen-scavenging material embedded therein when it is desired to use a closure assembly with such a barrier liner for the packaging of oxygen-sensitive materials, such as beer and other malt beverage products, dairy products and real juices.

摘要： A straw-insertable, sealing and resealing device is disclosed, including a flexible disk-like body and a geometrically shaped body for a drinking container, especially a container used for beer, soft drink, punch, fruit juice, vegetable juice, drinking water, and other consumable liquids. The said sealing device comprises at least one or a combination of disk-like bodies and geometrically shaped bodies within a drinking container cap having one or plurality of lines of weakness located on the top surface of at least one said body within the container rim adapted for inserting, holding and adjusting the length a drinking straw through the said top surface and thus into the drinking container and resealable when placed back into the said container. Once the container has been opened, one or a plurality of disk-like-bodies or geometrically shaped bodies are removed from within the cap and utilized to hold a drinking straw in place above the rim of the said container while in use. The length of the straw above the container rim is adjusted within at least one said disk-like body or geometrically shaped body to suit the user. At least one flexible disk-like body or geometrically shaped body is also removable or extendable to hold a drinking straw both inside and outside of the drinking container. After use, the straw and disk-like body or geometrically shaped body is discarded or put back into the container cap for resealing. At least one extended disk-like body or geometrically shaped body will also be utilized by the manufacturer to install and store a straw within the container for the consumer's use.

摘要： A tamper-indicating closure for a beverage package includes a base wall having a peripheral skirt with at least one internal thread for securing the closure to a container. A tamper-indicating band is frangibly connected to an edge of the skirt, and a stop flange extends axially and radially from an edge of the band for abutment with a stop bead on the container finish. A plurality of circumferentially spaced drain openings extend axially through the juncture of the band and the flange. A plurality of circumferentially spaced channels extend axially through the internal thread on the closure skirt, with at least some of the channels being axially aligned with the drain openings. The stop bead on the container is in the form of a plurality of circumferentially spaced bead segments separated from each other by circumferential gaps. Liquid product may readily drain from between the container finish and the closure skirt through the axial channels in the closure thread, through the drain openings at the juncture of the closure flange and band, and through the gaps between the stop bead segments on the container finish. The container finish may also have a support flange with drain channels or slots aligned with the gaps in the bead.

摘要： A method of making a package that includes the steps of blow molding a hollow plastic container, including blow molding a finish and a moil or dome that extends from the finish, and trimming the moil from the container finish so as to leave a conical flange extending inwardly and upwardly from the finish terminating in a smooth trimmed surface. A closure is provided having a base wall and a peripheral skirt. A liner is secured to the base wall within the skirt, and has a sealing surface spaced from the skirt. The closure is secured to the container finish in such a way that the container flange extending from the finish is deformed radially inwardly and axially downwardly by a peripheral portion of the liner so as to bring the trimmed surface of the container flange into abutment sealing engagement with the sealing surface of the liner. In various embodiments of the invention, the radially outwardly facing sealing surface on the liner is conical, convex, or formed by a hooked protrusion that extends axially from the liner.
