Abstract:
A regenerable molecular sieve comprises 0.001-15% elemental silver or gold in or on zeolite A. The molecular sieve is capable of simultaneously removing mercury and water from a fluid. A method for impregenating zeolite A with elemental silver or gold comprising treating the zeolite A with a solution of a silver or gold salt of a carboxylic acid and heating the impregnated zeolite A at a temperature sufficient to decompose the salt is also provided. A method for simultaneously and repeatedly removing mercury and water from a hydrocarbon fluid by contacting the fluid with an effective amount of a molecular sieve comprising zeolite A and 0.001-15% elemental silver or gold and regenerating the zeolite A at elevated temperatures is also provided.
Abstract:
A process is disclosed for upgrading a hydrocarbon oil feed having a significant content of metals, especially vanadium, to provide a higher grade of oil products by contacting the feed under sorbing conditions in an upgrading zone with a high surface area, high pore volume sorbent material containing an added alkaline metal to neutralize acidic cracking sites. Upgrading conditions are such that coke and metals are deposited on the sorbent in the upgrading zone. Coked sorbent is regenerated by contact with an oxygen containing gas under regeneration conditions to remove the coke, and regenerated sorbent is recycled to the upgrading zone for contact with fresh feed. The added alkaline metal is present on the sorbent in an amount sufficient to neutralize substantially all of the acidic cracking sites and provide a sorbent material having a MAT relative activity in the range of about 0 to about 1 percent. A sorbent composition disclosed comprises a deactivation, spent or equilibrium catalyst withdrawn from an FCC or RCC cracking operation and treated with an alkaline metal additive during the upgrading process and/or prior to use in the upgrading process by impregnation techniques. The alkaline metal additives include water soluble inorganic salts and/or hydrocarbon soluble organo-metallic compounds of select alkaline metals.
Abstract:
COS and other sulfur compounds such as H.sub.2 S or mercaptans are removed as impurities from liquid n-paraffin feedstocks by selective adsorption of the sulfur compounds using a dual bed of molecular sieves wherein the first bed contains the 13X variety sieves and the sequential bed contains a molecular sieve having an effective pore diameter of about 4 A.

Abstract:
A method is provided for treating hydrocarbons containing chemically combined chlorine by passing the hydrocarbons through a bed of molecular sieves of effective pore size in the range of 7 to 11 Angstrom units to remove the chemically combined chlorine and other impurities.
