    摘要: In a cotton gin, water is sprayed into a duct transporting pneumatically conveyed cotton fibers from a gin stand toward a battery condenser to improve the operation of a bale press where the ginned fibers are compacted into a bale. In some embodiments, a taggant is incorporated into the water to mark cotton fibers so threads or fabrics made from the cotton can be identified for quality control purposes. Spray nozzles may deliver water droplets of roughly the same size as the diameter of the cotton fibers. The nozzles may be located on a duct in a location adjacent dead air in the duct to promote coverage of the spray onto the cotton stream. Air may be delivered around the nozzles into the duct to prevent buildup of cotton and debris around the nozzles.

The interior of the bale may ultimately reach a temperature of about 80° C., which conditions and sanitizes the cotton fibers. Reduced pressure in the range of 20-200 mbar and steam treatment time in the order of 5 minutes can be employed.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for the collection of samples of staple fibers from a quantity (batch) of such fibers without material consideration of the nullconditionnull of the fibers within the batch, (e.g., the relative humidity and/or temperature of the environment immediate the batch of fibers), and thereafter physically converting each sample of fibers to a tapered beard geometry, employing a rotary carrier. Each beard is grasped at one end thereof with the fibers thereof extending unsupported therefrom. The beard is conveyed to a location proximate the entrance to an air flow channel whereupon conditioned air flowing into the flow channel moves along, over and past the beard, causing the free ends of the fibers to enter the flow channel and become aligned generally along the length of the flow channel. Continued flow of conditioned air into and through the flow channel, hence in a direction generally parallel to the length of the fibers which make up the beard, ultra-rapidly conditions only the fibers of the beard. Air flow rates may reach hundreds or even thousands of ft/sec velocity within the flow channel and conditioning of the fibers may be accomplished within a matter of seconds. Withdrawal of the beard from the flow channel is sensed as a part of length testing of the fibers of the beard. Other test modules may be employed.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for conditioning a fibrous material. The conditioning arrangement includes a moisturizing chamber having two series of opposed rollers arranged to accept a fiber batt into a pressing space therebetween. The pressing space tapers from a batt entrance toward a batt exit. This tapered configuration is affected for compressing a fiber batt as it is rolled therethrough. As illustrated, before entering the conditioner, the cotton batt has a greater thickness than after compaction and processing through the moisturizing chamber. A moisture infusion assembly is provided within the moisturizing chamber and has an air distributor configured to dispense moisture laden air adjacent to a fiber batt being processed through the pressing space. An air collector is configured to pull exhaust air away from the fiber batt being processed through the pressing space. The moisturizing chamber is configured to confine and circulate dispensed moisture laden air through the fiber batt being processed through the pressing space for optimizing a finished moisture content thereof.

    摘要: A method and apparatus are provided for conditioning of textile, e.g. cotton, fibers as they are removed from bales for processing. A source of a conditioning liquid and a source of pressurized air are each in flow communication with a plurality of atomizing nozzles secured to a reciprocating fiber take-off device located above a plurality of aligned bales of fibers. As the removal apparatus moves back and forth across the upper surface of each bale, the nozzles dispense conditioning liquid directly onto the exposed upper surface of each bale. The fibers are thereafter entrained in an air flow for transport to further processing station(s). Within the stream of airborne fibers, one or more sensors detect the moisture content and/or other physical property(ies) of the fibers and sends an appropriate signal to a controller that individually controls the rates of flow of water to those spray nozzles associated with the entrained fibers and the rate of flow of conditioning liquid to the nozzles associated with the take-off device. Control of the flow of air and conditioning liquid provides for retention of conditioning liquid in a quiescent state at the exit of each conditioning agent spray nozzle in position to be substantially instantaneously uniformly sprayed in a fan-pattern onto the exposed surface of the bales. Further the control of the present invention minimizes any spray of the conditioning liquid beyond the end bales of the aligned bales of fibers.

    摘要: Cotton fibers are wet finished in a simpler and quicker manner by forming the loose cotton fibers into an integral batt by needling utilizing a needling machine, or air laying equipment. After formation of an integral batt having a weight in the range of 10-32 ounces per square yard, the cotton fibers in the integral batt form are fed to a wet finishing range for effecting scouring, bleaching, steaming, finish application, washing, and/or drying thereof. Subsequently, the finished integral batt will be passed to a conventional fiber opener to break it back into fibers, or it may be taken up into a package for further processing. 100% cotton fibers, or cotton blends having at least 60% cotton fibers, can be processed.
