    摘要: A prefabricated shell for forming a shelter (14) has a groundsheet (30) and a cover (32) having a gas impermeable inner layer (24) and at least one outer layer. The outer layers are each formed by a layer of cloth that has been impregnated with a water-settable material, e.g. cement. The shell is steeped in water to wet the cement and then the cover is pneumatically inflated to form a space between the cover and the groundsheet. The shelter is then left until the cement has set and is able to support the cover. The shelter can easily be constructed to provide a durable shelter, especially in emergency areas.

    摘要: An inflatable object includes interior attachment points to opposing interior faces of the object and rope or cord connections between these attachment points. The opposing walls have interior faces which include attachment points adapted to be connected together by predetermined lengths of material, the arrangement being such that upon inflation of the device, the walls are held in position relative to one another by the lengths of material. The connection material between the inner and outer panels is a flexible cord-like material. However any appropriate material may be used. The attachment points are located on webbing strips attached to the interior face of each wall at a seam, provided with eyelets. In the preferred embodiment, the cords are maintained at an angle substantially or averaging substantially 90 degrees from the inner and outer surfaces.

    摘要: An air-inflated fabric roof of hyperbolic paraboloidal shape including a cable network therein and covering a building or other structure, or a part of a building such as an atrium. The building includes an annular rigid outer structure enclosing an inner area covered by the air-inflated hyperbolic paraboloidal fabric roof having the cable network therein. A pressurization system maintains the building interior at a predetermined pressure above ambient atmospheric pressure to inflate the fabric roof. The cable network includes a rigid, continuous ring member connected to the annular rigid outer structure. A first set of cables extends across the central opening of the ring member in parallel in a first or X direction. A second set of cables extends across the central opening in parallel in a second or Y direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The cables are tensioned so that their points of intersection lie in a hyperbolic paraboloidal surface having the general equation ##EQU1## Two tie cables extend diagonally across the central opening of the ring member and lie in the Z=O plane. The fabric material is fastened to the cable network. The hyperbolic paraboloidal cable network provides support for the fabric roof even in the absence of air pressurization or in the presence of large loads on the roof, for example a heavy layer of snow.

    摘要: A roof formed from a self-supporting inflatable structure including a polyhedron frame made from tension cables interconnected and joining at nodes and an envelope surrounding the frame. Anchoring skirts extend from each node line to predetermined lines on the panels forming the envelope. The polyhedron frame is such size as to provide an arch shaped roof covering an area to be covered, and when the envelope is inflated, and sufficient internal air pressure is therein maintained, all of the tension cables are under tension and the overall structure becomes rigid, stable and capable of resisting deformation caused by external forces applied to it.
