A load-bearing device including an overload indicator and a wire form overload indicator are provided for interconnection of load bearing connectors, preferably elongated load bearing connectors, for bearing a load. In preferred embodiments, the load bearing connectors are chains, ropes, wire ropes, cables, straps and the like, preferably chain. The wire form overload indicator preferably includes a wire form quick-link having a first thickness, and first and second elongated sides. The first elongated side preferably includes an interconnectable gap through which connection loops of the load bearing connectors can pass when the interconnectable gap is unconnected. The interconnectable gap includes a connection end and a connectable end, the connecting end having a connector capable of connecting the connecting end to the connectable end to close the gap. The second elongated side preferably has a portion having a diminished thickness as compared to the first thickness. The diminished thickness preferably has a predetermined load bearing capability and is calibrated to reduce the load bearing capability of the methods of making an overload indicator and a load bearing device including an overload indicator are also provided.

A detection apparatus is disclosed for detecting an overloaded condition of a truck. The apparatus includes a first arm which has a first and a second end, the first end of the first arm being rigidly secured to a frame of the truck. A portion of a proximity detector is fixedly secured to the second end of the first arm. A second arm has a first and a second extremity, the first extremity of the second arm being connected to a suspension of the truck. A further portion of the proximity detector is fixedly secured to the second extremity of the second arm. The further portion is disposed in a vicinity of the portion such that when the truck is loaded, the portion and further portion move towards each other and so that when the overloaded condition of the truck is reached, the portion and the further portion are disposed adjacent to each other. An electrical circuit is triggered when the portion and the further portion are disposed adjacent to each other. Also, a warning device is electrically connected to the circuit such that when the circuit is triggered, the warning device is actuated.

A top-loading balance with a housing, a weighing pan, and a load receptor, wherein the load receptor is connected with a system carrier by a parallel guidance having an upper guide and a lower guide. The system carrier is fixed relative to the housing. One of the guides is divided into two part-guides which, seen in plan view, are disposed preferably on either side of the undivided guide so that the guides do not overlap. In addition, the load receptor, the guides and the system carrier preferably form an integral component. The top-loading balance also includes strain gauges on at least one of the guides to generate a load-dependent electrical signal, which can be measured and converted into e.g. a visual display of the mass. The integral component has two cavities for batteries and the system carrier extends between the two battery cavities. Furthermore, the load receptor is constructed to be approximately U-shaped and the two limbs of the U are disposed laterally near the battery cavities. In addition, the strain gauges are arranged only on the inner side of the undivided guide. Therefore, the top-loading scale is flat and compact without compromising the stability of the scale. Preferably, the balance includes features, such as overload abutments, that protect the delicate parallel guidance, as well as features that ensure accurate measurement of off-center loads.
