摘要: A force sensor, in particular for detecting the forces on a vehicle seat, with a force measurement cell (1) that has a Hall element is proposed. The force measurement cell (1) includes at least one bending bar (2, 3), which from the exertion of force to be detected exerts an influence on the magnetic field in the region of a magnetic-field-sensitive sensor element (6) of the measurement cell (1). The sensing is done with a Hall element (6), held on the at least one bending bar (2, 3), which element, under the force exerted on the bending bar (2, 3), can be deflected in the field of a relatively stationary permanent magnet (4), and a magnetic diagnosis field in the region of the Hall element (6) can be generated whose field lines are located in the plane of the sensor element without influencing the measurement field.

摘要: A strain sensor (10) includes a flexible substrate (11) having one or more polymer-based resistive elements (12) at least partially conformably disposed thereon. Two or more conductive leads (13, 14) are electrically coupled to the resistive element. Flexure of the resistive element causes a corresponding alteration in a measurable electrical property of the resistive element, such as its characteristic impedance. User interfaces of various kinds can be fabricated with such strain sensors.

摘要: A method for in situ measurement of strain and temperature of metal and composite tubular's located in the marine environment using optical fiber techniques including Optical Time Domain Reflectrometry (OTDR) or Bragg Diffraction Gratings. The method provides the capability to make axial, circumferential and off-axis strain measurements on the body of the riser and in the metal to composite joint region. Through engineering analysis of optical strain measurements, the method provides the capability to determine the bending strain and frequency of Vortex Induced Vibrations (VIV) imposed by ocean currents. Optical fibers of either glass or polymeric composition are located on the outside of metal or composite risers following fabrication and bonded directly to the outer surface of the riser structural body and encapsulated in an outer protective cover. Strain measurements are transmitted to the surface either by a continuous optical fiber light path or by telemetry of a digitized signal.

摘要: A method and apparatus for detecting a resistive fault in an electrical conductor is presented. The apparatus of the invention includes an oscillating signal generator that applies an oscillating signal to the electrical conductor under test. The apparatus includes a measuring device for measuring the potential between the electrical conductor under test and a reference node. Such measurements are obtained both when the apparatus is disconnected from the electrical conductor under test and when the apparatus is connected to the electrical conductor under test. A difference in the measurements indicates that the connectivity of the electrical conductor is intact, whereas no difference indicates that a resistive fault exists somewhere in the electrical conductor. For greater accuracy, the longitudinal balance of the disconnected apparatus and connected apparatus measurements are calculated to determine connectivity. In an automated test environment, the measuring apparatus is part of the tester hardware and the connections to the electrical conductor under test are made through tester interface pins and fixture probes.

摘要: The alignment of railway tracks may be monitored using an accelerometer (36) mounted on a bogie (24) of a railway vehicle to detect lateral accelerations, and a displacement transducer (38) to monitor the lateral displacements of a wheelset (27) relative to the bogie. The acceleration signals are digitised, and processed corresponding to double integration, so as to deduce the lateral displacements of the bogie, and in conjunction with the signals from the displacement transducer hence to determine the effective lateral displacements of the track. This can provide a more useful indication of the lateral positions of the rails than measurements of the gauge faces. Such equipment (16) may be installed in a service vehicle, and operate automatically, downloading resulting data to a remote base station at regular intervals.

摘要: The invention is a microfabricated silicon cantilever with a stiffness appropriate to resolve forces of interest in working with micro objects. Stiffnesses may range from about 10 piconewtons per micron of deflection, to about 1 millinewton per micron of deflection. There is a set of micro weights of appropriate masses that is used to calibrate the force gages. The weights are captive to a ring on a handle so that they are free to move, but will not get lost.

摘要: An apparatus and method for measuring and recording the torque applied to a bolt. The present invention utilizes a piezoelectric compound disposed between an upper member and a lower member. When the bolt is tightened, the piezoelectric compound is physically distorted and a net electrical potential is created across the piezoelectric compound. A processor in the bolt measures the electrical potential and calculates the torque based on the potential. The bolt then transmits a data packet comprising the torque value and bolt information to a wrench, which later transmits the data packet to a computer and a database. Alternatively, the bolt can be configured with a transmitter so that the data packet can be transmitted directly from the bolt to the computer and database. The bolt can also be configured with energizing circuitry that acts as a power source for the bolt.
