    摘要: A method of securely attaching a plate to a malleable metal rod includes forming an integral, generally annular projection on one end of the rod. An opening through the plate is configured to receive the annual projection on the rod. The annual projection is inserted through the opening in the plate and is permanently deformed radially outwardly to overlie and contact the plate at a plurality of spaced locations. The deformations in the annular projection securely attach the plate to the rod.

The integrated pressure management system includes an aperture near a mouth of a housing, and the mouth includes a tip that is deformable so as to retain the poppet seal in the aperture. The apparatus includes a die and a collet. The die moves along an axis, and includes a face adapted to engage the mouth. The face includes a forming-over section adapted to engage the tip. The collet surrounds the die and extends along the axis between first and second axial ends. The collet includes first and second portions. The first portion extends between the first axial end and an intermediate axial position. The second portion extends between the intermediate axial position and the second axial end, and includes a plurality of segments positioned about the axis. Each of the plurality of segments includes at the second axial end a radially inward projecting tooth, and each tooth includes a tapered face.

    摘要: There is provided a blind rivet (10) comprising an axially extending hollow tubular body (18) having a tail end face (22) at one end and a pre-formed radially enlarged flange (20) at the other end, together with a mandrel (30) having a stem (32) which extends co-axially though the body (18) and having enlarged head adjacent the tail end (22) of the body, the stem having a weakened region immediately adjacent the head, whereby the mandrel head having an outer diameter greater than an outer diameter of said body, usually by between 4% and 9%, and which has a uniform conical shoulder (38) extending between said outer diameter of the head and the stem (32), so as to exert a setting force having an axial component for compressing the rivet body axially and an angular component effecting conical deformation of the tail end radially. There is also provided a method of fastening at least two workpieces using such a blind rivet (10), including providing the blind side of the workpieces with a countersunk region to accommodate the conically deformed tail end of the body after setting, substantially flush therewith.

    摘要: A convertible flange insertion machine for the insertion of a pair of internally threaded flanges into a drum head of a shipping container is disclosed. The machine includes a pair of continuously moving drum head conveyor chains running along conveyor supports and between a pair of tooling dies that upon compression insert flanges into the drum head. A pair of flange conveyors run along side the drum head conveyor and include a pair of side rails with two lips for guiding the lips of flanges according to two different flange styles. The flange conveyors terminate at a lateral transfer mechanism. One lateral transfer mechanism includes an indexer with two pawls that sequentially indexes flanges in a two step procedure over a pair of spring loaded stops and into the receiving pocket of a tooling block. The tooling block places the flanges over the tooling die where a release assembly forces the flanges out of the tooling block and onto the die. Another lateral transfer mechanism includes an indexer that directly indexes flanges laterally off a floor to be dropped into the die, and the indexer includes a flange engaging portion that holds the trailing edge of the flange to prevent the flange from tipping while it drops into the die. The drum head is placed over the flanges and the die portions compress, which lowers the conveyor supports and causes the drum head to come to rest on the lower die portion, and insert the flanges into the drum head. The machine is operable in both a one-step and two-step flange insertion procedure.

    摘要: The fastener of the fastener and panel assembly includes a body portion received in a panel opening and a tubular barrel having a free end extending radially inwardly and a midportion bowed outwardly having a diameter greater than the panel opening. The body portion has an outside diameter greater than the inside diameter of the panel opening to form an interference fit providing torque resistance and preventing push-through of the fastener. The method of installing a fastener includes inserting the fastener body portion into the panel opening with the barrel received in a first die member and the body portion supported in the panel opening by a second die member. The end of the barrel is deformed radially inwardly and toward the body portion by the first die member and the midportion of the barrel is deformed radially outwardly preventing withdrawal of the fastener element from the panel. The second die member simultaneously deforms the body of the fastener radially outwardly to form the interference fit with the panel.
