Abstract: A collecting electrode panel assembly for use in an electrostatic precipitator (10) comprises a plurality of collecting electrode plates (22) disposed in successively aligned relationship beneath and suspended from an electrode support beam (14) supported upon support beam (60) suspended from the upper region of the housing (12) of the electrostatic precipitator. The support beam (60), comprises an elongated flange support beam having a generally J-shaped cross-section having an upright leg (62), a base flange (64) extending transversely outward from the lower end of the upright leg, and a lip flange (68) extending upwardly from the outward edge of the base flange (64). The base flange (64) provides a support surface (66) upon which the end of the electrode support beam (14) rests. Notches (80) are cut in the lip flange (68) of the support beam (14) at appropriate locations to receive at each location the end of an electrode support beam (14). Hanger rods (70) are mounted to the upright leg ( 62) of the flange support beam (60) for suspending the support beam (60) from the housing of the electrostatic precipitator. The hanger rods (70) are adjustable so as to permit the elevation of the support beam (60) to be adjusted so as to assist in leveling the collecting electrode support beams (14) supported from the flanged support beam (60).

Abstract: A cover cap (40) is provided for covering the open end of a support insulator (38) having a discharge electrode hanger rod (28) passing coaxially therethrough. The cover cap (40) comprises a top (42) and a sloping side wall (44) extending coaxially outwardly and downwardly from the perimeter edge (54) of the top (42) and having a radial lip (46) and an axial lip (48) extending outwardly at substantially right angles to each other from its lower perimeter surface. A tubular gas injection nozzle (92) having an elbow subtending an angle of 135 degrees, is provided in the sloping side wall (44) for passing a jet of scavenging gas into the interior region encompassed by the sloping side wall (44). Abstract: A spacer formed of a relatively rigid frame is slidably adjustably mounted on and extends between a pair of horizontally spaced vertically extending ribs of electrostatic precipitator plates to maintain the plates in a predetermined horizontal spaced relationship. The frame preferably is formed by one or two rectangular-shaped frame members having U-shaped hooks attached thereto. The hooks are either attached directly to the plate ribs to frictionally slidably mount the frame between the spaced plates, or connect the two plates together with the plate ribs being clamped therebetween. The frame members and U-shaped hooks preferably are formed of round metal bars. The frame members are mounted on the ribs either at the top or bottom of the precipitator plates and then slidably moved along the ribs until positioned at the desired vertical location. The sliding clamping pressure of the frame members or hooks against the ribs enable the frame to be positioned between the plates without dismantling the plate supports and without a workman entering between the plates to attach the frame in the desired position.

Abstract: A dust separator in which a plurality of elongated emission electrodes are detachably held at one end in respective holder fittings secured to a pair of parallel, slightly-resilient inner frame members, or holders, which in turn are secured to substantially non-resilient outer frame members, and at their other ends in at least one holder fitting secured to a common cylindrical central holder extending between and parallel to the frame members; the electrode assembly is tensioned by adjustment of screws fastening said inner frame members or holders to said outer frame members. In one form the holder fittings are hollow cylinders through which the electrodes extend, and the electrodes are positioned in the fittings by their bent-over ends and clamped therein by tubular members forced into the hollow cylinders. In another form, specially-shaped holder shoes are used, in which dove-tailed ends of the electrodes are held. In both forms, the emission electrode preferably is folded slightly about its longitudinal axis to produce a V-shaped cross section which provides strength, good electrical contact and ease of assembly.

Abstract: An electrically operated cleaner to remove dust, pollen, smoke, etc. from the air in the nature of an electrostatic precipitating apparatus is shown. It is suitable for general utilization including furnace or air conditioner mounting. An operating unit is adapted to be removably carried within a frame-like housing which is open from its opposite wide sides for fluid or air movement therethrough, and which is electrically energized through the agency of a power pack to supply energy of one potential to a row of spaced-apart cell-defining plate members and to supply energy of opposite potential to in-between-spaced ionizing wires of one or more wire rows. A plate row of continuous construction is, in one embodiment, contoured for more efficient air through-flow cleaning action in one direction than the other, and in other embodiments is contoured for substantially equal efficiency of through-flow cleaning action from either open side of the apparatus. Continuous length stretches of ionizing wires are mounted in an extending, spaced-apart and continuous relation along a pair of insulated, oppositely positioned bars. The wire stretches are carried in a tensioned relation by flexible stretching or spring means. Flexible, slidable electrical connectors enable the operating unit to be readily inserted and removed from the housing.
