Abstract:
An apparatus for monitoring the fatigue strength of a structure comprises a longitudinal rib which is attached or integrated to the surface of the structure. The rib has a plurality of transverse notches of differing depths, each of the notches having a rounded end adjacent the surface of the structure and a pointed end extending toward an exterior edge of the rib.
Abstract:
Classification of natural language data wherein the natural language data has an open-ended range of possible values or the data values do not have a relative order. A training database stores training records, wherein each training record includes predictor data fields. Each predictor data field containes a feature, wherein each feature is a natural language term, and a target data field containing a target value representing a classification of the record. Features may also include conjunctions of natural language terms and each feature may also be a member of a category subset of features. The training database stores, for each feature, a probability weight value representing the probability that a record will have the target value contained in the target data field if a feature contained in a corresponding predictor data field occurs in the record. Features are extracted from a new record and each feature from the new record is used to query the training records to determine the probability weights from the training records having matching features. The probability weights are accumulated for each training record to determine a comparison score representing the probability that the training record matches the new record and provide an output indicating the training records most probability matching the new record.
Abstract:
A method of measuring deformation and an electrical resistance extensometer gauge therefor, wherein the gauge comprises a frame member having a surface adapted to be affixed to the surface of an article to be tested, at least one strand of wire which has an elastic memory, and means for affixing the strand to the frame member, whereby deformation of the article to be tested causes elongation of the strand thereby causing a change in the electrical resistance of said strand in proportion to the degree of deformation of the article to be tested.
Abstract:
A semiconductor device includes a strain gauge on a substrate, the strain gauge configured to measure a stress of the substrate; and a temperature sensor disposed within the substrate, the temperature sensor being decoupled from the stress of the substrate.
Abstract:
In a force sensor, a cylindrical movable body can be moved with respect to a cylindrical main body. A strain body is fixed to the main body and the movable body, and can be deformed in accordance with the movement of the movable body. Strain sensors are provided on the strain body. At least three circular openings are provided in the circumferential surface of the movable body at equal intervals. Stoppers are respectively arranged inside the openings, and each of which includes a first side surface having a first outer diameter smaller than an inner diameter of the opening, and a second side surface having a second outer diameter smaller than the first outer diameter. Fixing members fix the stoppers to the main body.
Abstract:
The invention provides a sensor capable of detecting deformation. The deformation sensor has a structure in which an ion-conductive polymer layer is sandwiched between soft electrodes, wherein non-uniform ion distribution is generated in the ion-conductive polymer layer by deformation, thereby generating a potential difference between the electrodes.
Abstract:
A transducer for assisting in measuring displacement or strain in an object of interest is described. A plate has at least two end sections for mounting the transducer. It comprises a flexible connection between the two end sections. The flexible connection comprises a plurality of rigid portions and flexible interconnections between the rigid portions for allowing relative movement of the rigid portions with respect to each other. The flexible connection has a central section substantially having a U-shape comprising two rigid portions spaced from each other over a distance and adapted for positioning a strain sensing element at the spacing in between said two rigid portions. The rigid portions and flexible interconnections are arranged so that a displacement applied to the end sections results in a relative displacement at the spacing in the central section that is larger than the relative displacement applied to the end sections.
Abstract:
A vehicle seat assembly including a seat frame assembly including a seat base and a seat back pivotally connected to the seat base. The seat back includes at least one resin fuse arranged in the seat back to indicate structural loading in the vehicle seat assembly above a tolerance loading. The at least one resin fuse includes an aperture extending through the seat back and comprising a flange encircling the aperture and extending generally perpendicular to the seat back, and an indicator bar extending across a diameter of the aperture. The aperture is open on either side of the indicator bar.
