By managing, it is meant the processing, storage, transportation and disposal of the cuttings. In an exemplary application, an offshore rig adapted to drill the wellbore uses one or more a selectively buoyant containers to transport the cuttings. The containers are positioned adjacent the offshore rig. In one arrangement, the containers are submerged to a selected depth below the water's surface. A transfer unit flows the cuttings from the offshore rig to the container via a conduit connected to the container.

    摘要: An adjustable depth marker buoy for marking a spot beneath the surface of water. The buoy includes a float for floating on the surface of the water and a reel assembly disposed in the float. The bottom wall of the float has a weight depending therefrom that maintains an upright orientation for the buoy when it is in the water. The reel assembly includes a spool of anchor line, a non-threaded rod, a threaded rod, a nut assembly that threadably moves along the threaded rod and slidably along the non-threaded rod, and a pointer assembly that moves slidably along the non-threaded rod. When the spot is located, its depth is determined. The pointer assembly is then slide along the non-threaded rod, until its pointer points to depth scale indicia on the depth plate corresponding to the depth of the spot beneath the surface of the water. The anchor line is then wound out until the nut assembly contacts the pointer assembly forming a stop and indicating that the anchor line has been fed out a length equivalent to the depth of the spot beneath the surface of the water. At this point the spool assembly is prevented from further rotation by a lock pin. The buoy is then thrown into the water at the spot causing the anchor weight to engage the bottom of the water and thereby minimize drift of the adjustable depth marker buoy, by virtue of the anchor line having a length equivalent to the depth of the water.

The pump and turbine blades do work when the capstan is rotated thereby creating a counter rotational (drag) force that tensions the line during and after deployment.

    摘要: A submarine deployed sea-state sensor includes an elongated housing having nose cone and an aft end. The housing having a forward buoyant chamber for receiving an accelerometer and for causing the sensor to be buoyed up to the surface, where it will thereafter float in a spar buoy fashion. The housing has, aft of the buoyant chamber, a damping assembly including a longitudinally extending motion damping body, a communication link deployment subassembly and a lifting body, with both the damping assembly and the lifting body attached to a communication link interconnecting the accelerometer and a submerged platform so that, when the subassembly deploys a portion of the communication link between the lifting body and a submerged submarine and this portion of the communication line becomes taught, the lifting body is pulled from the housing and the motion damping body is pulled by the lifting buoy into a distended position from the main portion of the spar buoy. Initially, the motion damping body is telescoped in the housing by a sliding fit between the body and the housing, and the lifting body is releasably joined to the motion damping body by a detent. The distended portion of the motion damping body is defined by a fixed length strap arrangement disposed within the sensor's housing which is connected between the motion damping body and fixed structure located toward the top of the housing.

    摘要: A support pile assembly for an aid to navigation that is to be placed in an area where it will be subject to repeated hits by boats and barges. In one configuration the assembly comprises a foundation which is driven into the mud on the bottom and which receives the support pile, and the support pile, which slips into the foundation. The support pile comprises three sections: a lower section which fits in the foundation; a spring section that is attached to the lower section by means of a joint in such a way that it cart flex in all directions; and an upper section, rigidly fixed to the spring section, to which the aid to navigation is attached. A compression spring in the spring section gets compressed whenever the pile is hit by a ship or barge and forced out of its normal vertical position; as the spring extends back to its original length, it causes the pile to revert to the vertical position.A second configuration is the same as the first except that the foundation rests on the bottom and the support pile comprises only the spring section and the upper section. The joint is bolted onto the base rather than onto the lower section as in the first configuration.
