摘要： A reusable "training" or "practice" round has a reusable hollow casing and a reusable hollow projectile that "snap together" and are releasably retained in assembled relationship by utilizing a resilient connecting member such as a groove-carried O-ring that is interposed between juxtaposed surfaces of concentrically interfitting portions of the casing and the projectile. The assembled practice round is inserted into the chamber end region of the barrel of a firearm and, when the round is fired, the casing is retained in the chamber as the projectile is caused to move along the barrel of the firearm and to discharge along a trajectory that closely simulates the path of flight of a "live" round. Propellant is provided by a reloadable or disposable blank-type cartridge. The projectile and the casing have hollow interiors that communicate and cooperate to define a closed chamber into which the blank round is fired to explosively generate the force needed to rapidly disconnect the projectile from the casing and to launch the projectile through the barrel of the firearm. A snap-together type of releasable connection is established between the casing and the projectile 1) by providing the casing and the projectile with coaxially extending surfaces that are brought into juxtaposed relationship during assembly of the casing and the projectile, and 2) by positioning a resilient connecting member to be tightly clamped between the juxtaposed surfaces just as assembly of the round is completed.

摘要： An improved ignition system for a fin-stabilized, high intrusion projectile (10) comprises an elongated boom (14) and a hollow fin assembly (16) which extends rearwardly into an external cartridge case (28) containing a consumable containment bag (30) filled with granular propellant (34), and which fits slidably over a primer (54). The primer (54) comprises a stub flash tube (56) extending through the base (40) of the external cartridge case (28) and a long igniter cartridge (58) fitted within the axial bore of the stub flash tube (56). The outer walls of the igniter cartridge (58) are fabricated from a combustible material such as paper, and the interior of the igniter cartridge (58) is filled with strands of benite or a similar explosive. Both the stub flash tube (56) and the hub (17) of the fin assembly (16) are provided with a plurality of transverse drilled flash holes or openings (60) which permit the flame and hot gases from the benite or the like within the igniter cartridge (58) to spread to the granular propellant (34) in the outer cartridge.

摘要： A rocket launching cartridge case is formed by attaching a cylindrical extension member to the open end of a cartridge case. The extension member conforms to cartridge receiving chambers of conventional weapons. A rocket assembly is releasably locked within the extension member at a predetermined axial position. The rocket assembly can be slideably positioned within the extension member and locked in place prior to attachment of the extension member to the cartridge case. The locking means establishes a rocket assembly and launching case overall length for use in particular conventional weapons. An obturator member on the rocket assembly engages rifling in the conventional weapon bore imparting a stabilizing spin when the rocket assembly is fired. The obturator is connected to the rocket assembly in a manner permitting slip rotation therebetween providing a predetermined rate of stabilizing spin. The extension member and the obturator have surfaces functioning as gas seals during launching of the rocket assembly.

A projectile is supported in the forward portion of the case by means of a bushing having an inwardly and forwardly extending taper that terminates in engagement with the flange of the casing. The inner periphery of the bushing exhibits an outwardly directed projection intermediate its ends, such projection being received in a mating annular recess on the outer periphery of the projectile.

摘要： A grenade launcher for firing an annular grenade cartridge includes a hollow receiver, a barrel having a transverse feedway therethrough and a rifled bore of greater diameter than the receiver extending forwardly of the feedway, and a tubular cartridge support slidably disposed in the receiver in position to cock the launcher firing mechanism when drawn to the rear and arranged when returned to the forward position thereof to pass through the annular cartridge and cooperate with the barrel to define an annular bore therebetween. The annular cartridge is provided with an annular primer and propellant charge in the rear end of an annular cartridge case having an enlarged counterbored portion at the forward end thereof. An annular piston is slidably disposed in obturating engagement with the exterior periphery of the tubular cartridge support and is arranged to be driven forwardly by the firing of the propellant charge to impart corresponding movement to an annular sabot releasably seated in the counterbored portion of the cartridge case.

摘要： A cartridge case having a plastic body has a metallic tubular mouth member affixed thereto. A generally cylindrical projectilereceiving portion may be crimped to securely hold a projectile and a rear portion of the mouth member is tapered to match the inner contour of the plastic case. Interaction of a circumferential rib with a forward gum chamber wall and the interaction of matching shoulders on the mouth member and the plastic body prevent separation of the mouth member from the cartridge case during firing, extraction and ejection. The mouth member provides enhanced reloadability for the cartridge case and produces a center of gravity matching that of metallic cartridge cases for optimum ejection characteristics.
