摘要: An ammunition system and associated ammunition for firearms, particularly for muzzleloader firearms, having a predetermined amount of propellant charge housed in a casing, and a separate projectile having a sabot. The casing has a cap sealing the casing muzzle end such that the cap and the sabot provide seals to trap propellant gases within the barrel behind the projectile upon firing. The cap top end and sabot bottom end interlock in mechanical communication with one another upon firing allowing the projectile exiting the barrel muzzle end to be responsive to the barrel rifling. The barrel breech end has a chamber bushing for receiving the casing and a tapered muzzle end to prohibit the projectile from entering the casing.

摘要: The present invention relates to stackable projectiles having a warhead and a propulsion unit. An adaptor enables the warhead to be coupled to propulsion units made of different materials. Furthermore, an adaptor couples different profiles of warheads and propulsion units and allows projectiles to be stacked without need for design modifications. The assembled projectile can be fired electrically or mechanically.

摘要: A 40 mm ammunition projectile for firing without significant spin in an M203 or an M320 grenade launcher. The ammunition includes a projectile body having hollow inner cavity therein for an explosive warhead; a projectile fin assembly; a projectile nose element having a conically shaped front area thereon; a decoupled projectile sabot in two or more joining sabot petals enclosing the body; a base cartridge case having vent holes, a bowl area for placement of a copper closure cup containing propellant therein, and a closure plug for threading into the rear of said cartridge case. The projectile fin assembly may provide a canted angle on each fin blade to (relatively very slowly) spin up the round at less than 30 Hz. Projectiles with body length less than five inches may be launched in an M203 grenade launcher while projectiles with body length up to eight inches may be launched in an M320 grenade launcher.

摘要: An apparatus and method relating to a cased telescoped ammunition assembly configured to be fired from a firing device. Under one aspect of the invention, a cased telescoped ammunition assembly includes a combustible case body and noncombustible end caps connected to opposing ends of the case body. The case body is configured to be substantially consumed in combustion when the ammunition assembly is fired. An internal support structure is positioned in the interior portion of the case body and connected to the end caps. The internal support structure and the end caps define a load-bearing unit that provides a load path substantially independent of the case body. The load-bearing unit is configured to react external loads, such that the combustible case body is substantially isolated from and does not react the external loads.

摘要: A device including a ring for linking a case and a projectile carrying a sealing band having a rear skirt providing low pressure sealing and a front rib lodged in a first groove in the projectile. The ring has a flared rear part connected with the case and a front part connected with the projectile by attachment means. The front part of the ring is lodged between the rear skirt of the band and the projectile and has a lip co-operating with the first groove or with a second groove in the projectile. A process for mounting the sealing band and ring to link the case and projectile includes sliding the sealing band and ring along the projectile in a single operation.

摘要: A cartridge case and cartridge arrangement and method in which a base is joined along an annular intermating chevron-shaped joint with a sleeve. In the illustrated and preferred embodiment the base is metal and the sleeve is glass-fiber-reinforced plastic. The case has a propellant, projectile, and a percussive primer. A plurality of circumferentially spaced vent holes are formed in the plastic sleeve along a portion of the chevron joint as an aid to reducing excessive interface friction loads at the chevron joint during firing of the cartridge. A less preferred modification and mode of practice of the invention is disclosed in which the base is formed of plastic material or a composite glass-plastic or other composite plastic material, and the sleeve is formed of metal. A further less preferred modification and mode of practice is disclosed in which both the sleeve and the base are formed of similar materials.

摘要: The target-effective mass of cartridged ammunition is increased while maintaining a predetermined cartridge length.A projectile body has a projectile tail portion extending rearwardly on which a fin or wing-stabilization arrangement is mounted. This tail portion extends rearwardly towards the immediate vicinity of the propellant charge casing bottom. A projection extends rearwardly past the wing or fin-stabilization guide arrangement. This projection includes a massive portion which separates at firing from the propellant charge casing bottom. The rear portion of the projectile body is surrounded by a sheathing of combustible material forming the ignition element which sheathing extends from the cartridge case bottom up to at least the middle of the propellant charge casing and has a longitudinal extent l.sub.2. The massive projection permits, during the combustion of the propellant charge up to separation the build up of a high gas pressure, whereby in particular a loose powder propellant charge is ignited by the ignition element for a short period of time in a uniform and reproducible manner. Thus, without increasing the length of the cartridge an increase of the target-effective mass and an increase of the projectile length is achieved with an accompanying penetration capacity increase by improving the relationship of the projectile length l.sub.1 to the projectile diameter d.sub.1.

摘要: A fin-stabilized subcaliber projectile having a drive cage comprising a plurality of segments and surrounding the body of the projectile in its central region. A tail disc is fastened to the cage and jointly covers the segments and tears in the region of the joints upon the release of the cage. Both the tail disc and a plurality of reinforcing segments corresponding to the drive-cage segments, and a connecting piece produces the connection to a burnable cartridge case disposed at the tail end of the drive cage one behind the other, these elements being connected to the drive cage by means of non-burnable fastening means.
