The liquid crystal displays incorporated within the watch or designer apparel item can be adapted to provide various colored images such as geometric images, animation images, customized images, designer labels, logos, etc. on colored backgrounds or alternatively provides a color changing capability that is aesthetically pleasing and fashionable. Moreover, the dynamically changing watch or other designer apparel item allows for the electronic control of the color appearance of the liquid crystal displays as well as electronic control of the liquid crystal display images, such images being generally independent of the time of day.

摘要： An electronic watch having a multiple of modes includes mode selection means operable from the outside and a plurality of external operating buttons for modifying the contents of indication of the watch or for issuing an operational command in each mode. Auxiliary indication means is provided directly with the mode selection means. Alternatively, the auxiliary indication means may be provided separately from the mode selection means but in an interlocked fashion with it. The indication surface of the auxiliary indication means carries at a position corresponding to each of the external operating buttons a symbol or characters which represent the function of said each of the external operating buttons in each selected mode.

摘要： Multi-colored display devices comprising layered liquid crystal display cells are provided. The multi-colored display devices include a first polarizing plate, a first liquid crystal display cell of the twisted nematic type having an optical activity of about 90.degree. disposed adjacent to the polarizing plate and at least one liquid crystal display cell of the guest-host type containing a dye disposed adjacent to the first display cell. In the guest-host display cell the liquid crystal and dyes are oriented parallel to the polarizing axis of the polarizing plate. The multi-colored display device includes an auxiliary color source which may be a colored polarizing plate disposed on the surface of the device opposed to the first polarizing plate with the axis of polarization of the colored polarizing plate perpendicular to the axis of polarization of the first polarizing plate or an additional liquid crystal cell of the guest-host type including a different dye.
