Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. One method includes performing a first beam sweep procedure to determine a first beam pair that includes a transmit beam of a first wireless node and a receive beam of a second wireless node, identifying a level of correspondence at one or both of the first wireless node and the second wireless node, the level of correspondence being between a transmit beam and a receive beam of a respective wireless node and determining, based on the level of correspondence, a range of a second beam sweep procedure to be performed in determining a second beam pair that includes a transmit beam of the second wireless node and a receive beam of the first wireless node.

Abstract: Techniques for procedures using request to send/clear to send (RTS/CTS) procedures and multiple timers are described. A RTS/CTS procedure using multiple timers may use a first timer and a second timer. The first timer may be associated with a duration to transmit and receive a request to send (RTS) message and a clear to send (CTS) message. The second timer may be associated with a duration to transmit a data message. A network device may transmit a RTS message to request communication resources to transmit data. If the CTS message is not received prior to the expiration of the first timer, neighboring network devices may determine that the communication resources were not allocated and may attempt to request the newly available resources. If a CTS message is received, the network device may communicate the second timer data to the neighboring network devices in a variety of ways.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described in which a number of reference signal processes may be configured for a number of slots in a radio frame, and a corresponding reference signal process for each slot may be based at least in part on a location of the slot within the radio frame and a number of configured reference signal processes. An indication may be provided to a user equipment (UE) in each slot that indicates a presence or absence of a reference signal transmission in the slot.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described for discontinuous reception (DRX) wake up procedures over millimeter wave (mmW) frequency resources. A base station may use multiple antenna ports to transmit one or more beamformed downlink transmissions to a user equipment (UE). The downlink transmissions may include beam-swept reference signals, and the UE may initiate a wake up procedure prior to a configured DRX-On cycle to receive the reference signals. Based on the reception of the reference signals, the UE may train a set of receive beams and determine a preferred downlink transmit beam. The base station may subsequently transmit at least a portion of a cell radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) in a beam-swept manner, and the UE may evaluate the C-RNTI transmission on the preferred transmit beam. The UE may also transmit an uplink response indicating the preferred transmit beam to receive downlink data.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may identify that data is available to be transmitted to a user equipment (UE) that is operating in a discontinuous reception mode. The base station may transmit, based at least in part on identifying that the data is available to be transmitted to the UE, a wakeup message to the UE using a first transmit beam. The base station may initiate a beam management procedure based at least in part on identifying that the data is available to be transmitted to the UE, to identify a second transmit beam for the base station to use to transmit the available data to the UE, wherein the second transmit beam comprises a narrower beam width than the first transmit beam.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Some examples provide for identifying a primary synchronization signal (PSS) sequence of a synchronization subframe, determining, for the synchronization subframe, an extended synchronization signal (ESS) sequence based at least in part on the PSS sequence and transmitting the synchronization subframe. Other examples provide for generating an ESS sequence for a synchronization subframe to be communicated to a UE, scrambling the ESS sequence based at least in part on cell-specific information associated with the base station and transmitting, to the UE, the scrambled ESS sequence in the synchronization subframe.

Abstract: Method, systems, and apparatuses are described for discovery operations in a millimeter wave wireless communication system. A first base station of the millimeter wave wireless communication system may determine a timing parameter and a propagation parameter associated with a second base station of the millimeter wave wireless communication system. The first base station may perform a discovery procedure with the second base station based at least in part on the timing parameter and the propagation parameter. At least a portion of the discovery procedure may be performed wirelessly via the millimeter wave wireless communication system. The first base station may establish a backhaul communication link with the second base station based on the discovery procedure.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. A wireless node may determine a pattern for transmitting multiple synchronization communications in one or more synchronization communication sets. The wireless node may deteimine a set of resources, in the one or more synchronization communication sets, to be used to transmit the multiple synchronization communications based at least in part on the pattern. The wireless node may transmit the multiple synchronization communications using the set of resources. A first synchronization communication, of the multiple synchronization communications, may be frequency division multiplexed with a second synchronization communication. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract: Methods, systems, devices, and apparatuses are described for phase noise estimation. A transmitting device identifies a phase noise metric associated with a receiving device. The phase noise metric provides an indication of the expected phase noise for the receiving device. The transmitting device selects a plurality of pilot tones adjacent to each other and a plurality of null tones for a transmission to the receiving device based on the phase noise metric. The plurality of null tones may be adjacent to and on both sides of the pilot tones in the frequency domain. The transmitting device identifies its own phase noise metric and select the pilot tones adjacent to each other and plurality of null tones in further consideration of its own phase noise metric. The receiving device may use the pilot tones and plurality of adjacent null tones to determine a phase noise estimation for the transmission.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that provide for synchronization signal (SS) blocks in which synchronization signals and broadcast channel transmissions may be transmitted. Broadcast channel transmissions may be demodulated using SS transmissions, reference signal transmissions, or combinations thereof. Broadcast channel transmissions may be transmitted in a subset of SS block time resources, and synchronization signals may be transmitted in another subset of SS block time resources. Reference signals may be transmitted using tones within the broadcast channel time resources, and may be transmitted at a higher density for portions of the broadcast channel transmission bandwidth that are outside of the SS transmission bandwidth. Waveforms for reference signal transmissions, and information provided by reference signal transmissions may be provided.
