Abstract: A process is provided that includes pyrolyzing methane to form a stream of hydrogen and solid carbon and co-feeding a CO2-containing stream and the stream of hydrogen to a fuel synthesis unit in which the CO2 of the CO2-containing stream and the hydrogen of the stream of hydrogen are converted to a low-carbon intensity fuel. Also provided is a system comprising a pyrolizer for pyrolyzing methane having a methane inlet, an outlet for a stream of hydrogen, and an outlet for solid carbon. The system also comprises a fuel synthesis unit capable of receiving the stream of hydrogen and a CO2-containing stream in which the CO2 of the CO2-containing stream and the hydrogen of the stream of hydrogen are converted to a low-carbon intensity fuel.

The resulting inverted polymer solutions can have a concentration of a synthetic (co)polymer (e.g., an acrylamide (co)polymer) of from 50 to 15,000 ppm, and a filter ratio of 1.5 or less at 15 psi using a 1.2 μm filter. Also provided are methods of using these inverted polymer solutions in oil and gas operations, including enhanced oil recovery.

Abstract: A method of making a cement composite can include contacting an aqueous solution comprising calcium ions with a carbon dioxide source producing a carbonated aqueous solution. Fine particles can be submerged in the carbonated aqueous solution to produce microaggregate particles comprising the fine particles coated with calcium carbonate. The microaggregate particles can be combined with cement particles to produce the cement composite. The cement composite can be used in cementing applications for hydrocarbon wells including for casing liners and well plugs.

Abstract: A method is described for reservoir structure characterization including obtaining well logs and seismic data; performing facies classification and stratigraphic sequencing on the well logs to identify a plurality of layers; estimating wavelets from the seismic data and using the wavelets to tie synthetic seismograms from well logs to the seismic data; determining a mean value for each elastic property in each layer of the well logs and assigning the mean value to each layer to generate blocky well logs; using the wavelets to attempt to tie synthetic seismograms from the blocky well logs to the seismic data; defining facies-dependent properties based on the blocky well logs; performing global optimization using the facies-dependent properties and the seismic data to find thicknesses of the layers across the volume of interest; and mapping the reservoir structure based on the global optimization to generate a graphical representation of the reservoir structure.
