Abstract: The invention relates to a furnace for performing an endothermic process, the furnace including a plurality of process tubes containing a catalyst for converting a gaseous feed, wherein the process tubes are arranged in rows within the furnace, each row of process tubes thereby defining a process tube row, a plurality of inner burners arranged in rows, each row of inner burners being arranged between and parallel to process tube rows, thereby defining an inner burner row, and a plurality of outer burners arranged in rows, each row of outer burners being arranged between and parallel to a process tube row and a furnace wall, thereby defining an outer burner row. A number of burners of an outer burner row is smaller than a number of burners of an inner burner row. The invention also relates to a process for operating a furnace for performing an endothermic process.

Abstract: Provided are methods and systems for combining hydrogen supply and fuel cell processes for increased efficiency of electricity generation. The method may include decomposing methane to produce at least hydrogen, introducing at least a portion of the hydrogen to a fuel cell to generate at least electricity and heat, and capturing at least a portion of the heat from the fuel cell to reduce an electricity requirement for the methane decomposition. The system may include a methane preheater, a reaction system, a hydrogen storage system, a hydrogen fuel cell, and a heat recovery unit. The reaction system may comprise one or more reaction chambers containing a liquid base fluid, carrier droplets and a catalyst, wherein the reaction system is configured to decompose methane. The heat recovery unit may be configured to supply waste heat from the hydrogen fuel cell to the methane preheater.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing hydrogen, having a steam methane reforming step for producing synthesis gas, in which heat for the endothermic reaction is at least partially provided by converting electrical energy into heat. The synthesis gas is subject to a water-gas shift step and the shift product is subject to a chemical scrubbing step, to afford a carbon dioxide product stream and a hydrogen raw product stream. The hydrogen raw product stream is further purified by means of a hydrogen production step, which affords pure hydrogen and an off-gas stream. The off-gas stream, rich in carbon monoxide and methane, is recycled to the hydrocarbon containing feedstock stream, so that a combined stream of hydrocarbon containing feedstock, off-gas and steam is supplied to the steam methane reforming (SMR) step.

Abstract: A process for making recycle content ammonia by reacting hydrogen with nitrogen. At least a portion of the hydrogen is obtained directly or indirectly by molecular reforming a mixed plastic waste or pyrolysis product feedstock. The molecular reforming can be a steam reforming process or a partial oxidation process, such as a partial oxidation gasifier, to generate the syngas used as a source of hydrogen. The recycle content associated with the ammonia can be obtained from the mixed plastic waste, the recycle content in the pyrolysis product, such as pyoil or pygas, or the recycle content in the syngas or the purified hydrogen stream from the syngas.

Abstract: Provided are methods for preparing hydrogen and solid carbon. Illustrative methods comprise providing a feedstock comprising gaseous hydrocarbons to a microwave-inert reaction vessel and/or a radio wave-inert reaction vessel. The reaction vessel has solid carbon, about 0% water and about 0% molecular oxygen inside the reaction vessel and the carbon inside the reaction vessel is operable to heat the feedstock comprising gaseous hydrocarbons. The carbon is then exposed to microwaves and/or radio waves until the solid carbon is at a temperature of at least 1200 Kelvin, thereby forming hydrogen and solid carbon. Once formed, the hydrogen and solid carbon are separated.
