Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Discontinuous reception (DRX) operation may be configured differently on enhanced component carriers (eCCs) than on other component carriers, including a primary cell (PCell). In some cases, a user equipment (UE) may be configured with several different eCC DRX modes. An eCC DRX configuration may, for example, be coordinated with downlink (DL) transmission time interval (TTI) scheduling so each DRX ON duration may correspond to a DL burst duration of the corresponding eCC. The eCC DRX ON durations may also be scheduled according to hybrid automatic repeat request (HARD) process scheduling. In some examples, eCC DRX ON durations may be based on listen-before-talk (LBT) procedures. In some cases, eCC DRX ON durations may be configured to contain an uplink (UL) burst to enable channel state information (CSI) reporting. The eCC DRX may also be configured to minimize interruption of the PCell.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A transmitter may identify a contention window for a no-energy-detection protocol for determining a channel availability for a data transmission. After the contention window expires, the transmitter may send a request message to a receiver. The receiver may measure a quality of the request message against a request threshold and transmit a response message if the measured quality exceeds the request threshold. The transmitter may then measure a quality of the response message against a response threshold. If the measured quality exceeds the response threshold, the transmitter may initiate a data transmission with the receiver. If the quality falls below the response threshold or the response message is not received, the transmitter may adjust the contention window and reattempt the no-energy-detection protocol. The contention window may also be adjusted based on an acknowledgement message received after the data transmission.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may employ a multiplexing configuration based on latency and efficiency considerations. The base station may transmit a resource grant, a signal indicating the length of a downlink (DL) transmission time interval (TTI), and a signal indicating the length of a subsequent uplink (UL) TTI to one or more user equipment (UEs). The base station may dynamically select a new multiplexing configuration by, for example, setting the length of an UL TTI to zero or assigning multiple UEs resources in the same DL TTI. Latency may also be reduced by employing block feedback, such as block hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback. A UE may determine and transmit HARQ feedback for each transport block (TB) of a set of TBs, which may be based on a time duration of a downlink TTI.

Abstract: An example data structure for managing user equipment communications in a wireless communications system is presented, as well as methods and apparatuses configured to implement the data structure. For instance, the data structure may include a downlink subframe comprising two slots and including one or more quick downlink channels having a single-slot transmission time interval. In addition, the example data structure may include one or more resource element blocks each comprising one or more resource elements into which a frequency bandwidth is divided within one or both of the two slots, wherein each of the one or more resource element blocks comprises a control channel region or a data channel region. Furthermore, the example data structure may include one or more resource grants, located within one or more control channel regions, for one or more user equipment served by the one or more quick downlink channels.

Abstract: New radio (NR) transmission opportunity (TxOP) structure having flexible starting points are disclosed for wireless communications. When a typical listen before talk (LBT) procedure is performed, the transmitting node will not know ahead of time when the LBT will pass and, thus, when data transmissions can start. NR systems may include a mini-slot design for accommodating transmission units smaller than a slot. Aspects of the present disclosure provide for flexibly increasing the number of potential starting transmission boundaries depending on when the LBT pass is detected. Alternative aspects of the present disclosure determine the potential starting transmission points using a mini-slot based design, a floating slot based design, or a punctured slot based design with a code block group (CBG) level retransmission mechanism.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. One method for wireless communication at a base station includes contending for access to a shared channel of a shared radio frequency spectrum band, and multiplexing first component carrier (CC) communication windows and second CC communication windows in the shared channel. A duration of orthogonal frequency domain multiplexed (OFDM) symbols of the first CC communication windows may be different from a duration of OFDM symbols of the second CC communication windows, and the multiplexing may occur on the shared channel upon winning contention for access to the shared channel. One method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes monitoring a shared channel of a shared radio frequency spectrum band for a first CC Listen Before Talk (LBT) frame, and receiving, in a second CC preamble, an indication of the first CC LBT frame.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A receiving wireless device may determine that a data communication is scheduled for the wireless device on a channel of a shared radio frequency spectrum band during a transmission opportunity (TxOP) spanning a plurality of slots. The receiving wireless device may identify a subset of slots from the plurality of slots, wherein the subset of slots is associated with a channel reservation signal by the wireless device. The receiving wireless device may receive the data communication at the wireless device during the TxOP using a beam configuration. The receiving wireless device may perform repeated transmissions of the channel reservation signal based at least in part on the beam configuration during the subset of slots and within a time period associated with receiving the data communication.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for radio resource management (RRM) measurement and reporting for license assisted access (LAA) cells operating in unlicensed or shared frequency spectrum are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive an RRM measurement configuration including a channel occupancy parameter for measuring neighbor cells of a shared frequency band. The channel occupancy parameter may be used to determine a channel occupancy metric that may be sent to a base station for cell selection. The channel occupancy metric may include an averaged or filtered received signal strength and may be reported for serving cells and/or intra-frequency neighbor cells. A base station may further configure a UE with a discovery reference signals (DRS) measurement timing configuration (DMTC), which may include an extended DMTC search window. The UE may search for DRS transmissions from neighbor cells according to the DMTC.
