A shaft having a lever handle is positioned within a through hole in the latch bolt mechanism. The lever handle can be rotated in a first direction from a first position to a second position, and in a second opposite direction from the first position to a third position to provide access to an area of a door panel otherwise obstructed by the lever handle.

    Abstract: An apparatus for eliminating misaligned rows when securing edges of knitted panels together by securing edges of a pair of panels being darned. The apparatus comprises a first member and a second member each having a handle portion on a first end and a jaw portion on an opposite end. A securing means engaging such first member and such second member intermediate each end thereof for securing such second member to such first member. An aperture is formed through a jaw portion of one of first member and second member and a post member extends outwardly from an inner surface of an opposite one of first member and second member. The post member is disposed to extend through the aperture for securing the panels. A biasing means is engageable with the handle portion of such first member and such second member for biasing the apparatus in a closed position.

    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided which make security, licensing, and browsing capabilities of directory services available for use with the Java language and environment, and thus provide an alternative to security restrictions imposed on Java applets. A Java component type is created in a directory services schema. The Java component type specifies where a Java class can be found in a LAN or on the Internet. The key attributes of the Java component type are its common name (specifying a Java class) and either a reference to the file containing the Java class's byte codes or a binary stream attribute containing the byte codes. The loadClass( ) method is extended to look for Java classes within a directory services database. The directory services features thus made available include support for securing, metering, and licensing individual Java classes.

    Abstract: A bumper and sling arrangement assists a user to dock his or her boat to a dock or the like by allowing the user to set-up the sling in slack condition between moorings on the boat and dock, and then allowing the user to tighten the slackness out of the sling until the boat is pulled into the dock. The bumper is suspended from the sling in between the boat and dock. As the sling is tightened, the bumper is compressed between the boat and dock in order to constrain relative movement between the boat and dock to practically eliminate such relative movement, as well as, simultaneously, to cushion what relative movement that cannot be eliminated.

    Abstract: A valve stem seal provides an elastomeric main valve body having an upper working portion and a lower support portion, the latter for support of the seal on a valve guide member. The seal contains a central helically threaded internal region adapted to meter oil flow betwen the valve guide and a valve stem reciprocally moveable with the guide. The upper working portion defines a pair of ends, wherein each end contains a non-threaded internal portion defining a plurality of alternately arranged axially extending grooves and ribs. The grooves provide oil flow passageways, while the ribs support the ends of the working portion against the reciprocal valve stem member. In a preferred form, the non-threaded internal portions have axial lengths within a range of one-tenth to one-third the axial length of the central threaded region.

    Abstract: This invention is directed to the preparation of glass articles exhibiting a relatively broad band of high contrast polarizing properties in the infrared region of the radiation spectrum from glasses containing silver halide particles selected from the group consisting of AgCl, AgBr, and AgI. The inventive method comprises the following five general steps:(a) melting a batch for a glass containing silver and at least one halide selected from the group consisting of chloride, bromide, and iodide;(b) cooling and shaping said melt into a glass article of a desired configuration;(c) subjecting said glass article to a temperature at least above the strain point, but not in excess of 75.degree. C. above the softening point of the glass, for a sufficient length of time to cause the generation of silver halide particles therein selected from the group consisting of AgCl, AgBr, and AgI, said particles ranging in size between about 200-5000 .ANG.;(d) elongating said glass article under stress at a temperature above the annealing point, but below that where said glass exhibits a viscosity of about 10.sup.8 poises, such that said silver halide particles are elongated to an aspect ratio of at least 5:1 and aligned in the direction of the stress; and, thereafter,(e) exposing said elongated glass article to a reducing environment at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure and at a temperature above about 250.degree. C., but no higher than about 25.degree. C. above the annealing point of the glass, for a period of time sufficient to develop a reducing surface layer on said glass article having a thickness of at least 10 microns wherein at least a portion of said elongated silver halide particles are reduced to elemental silver particles having aspect ratios greater than 2:1 which are deposited in and/or upon said elongated particles.

    Abstract: A unique arrangement of elements is integrated into discrete modules for automatically controlling the quantity of fuel dispensed from service station fuel pumps in response to a preselected value. The arrangement may include three principal assemblies consisting of two modules and a solenoid. A rotary switching arrangement may be housed within the first module to be directly mechanically driven by a cost-of-purchase totalizer of the service station fuel pump. The rotary switch includes arcuately arranged, fixed electrical contact buttons which are each electrically connected with one of a plurality of selector switches provided within the second module. A keyboard having a plurality of pushbuttons may be displayed on a face of a second module and each pushbutton is operable to close a corresponding one of the selector switches. The first and second modules may be electrically connected to form a normally opened series circuit, having a plurality of branch circuits. A solenoid may be integrated with the second module and connected in parallel with the circuit for resetting each pushbutton upon the dispensing of the desired dollar amount of fuel. A second solenoid may be connected in parallel with the circuit to be operable, upon actuation, to apply a mechanical pull to an existing fuel pump cutoff mechanism. The electrical circuit is adaptable for connection with a source of electrical power and is momentarily closed by the co-existing conditions of a closed selector switch and the engagement of the rotary switch with the fixed contact button electrically connected with that closed selector switch. The momentary closing of the circuit is operable to actuate both solenoids to cut off further fuel dispensing by the service station fuel pump and to reset the selector switch to an initial position for the next dispensing operation. In this manner of operation, the circuit is energized only for brief periods of time for actuating the solenoids. The arrangement of elements is such as to facilitate the installation of the present control system either in existing pumps or as original equipment.
