Abstract:
A data processing system and method manage the storage of instructions used in applications developed using an interpretive programming language, such as Java, REXX, BASIC, and the like, when those instructions are compiled into byte-codes to be used by a virtual machine stored in a “heap.” In the data processing system and method, an exception is registered in a page manager of an operating system to identify that compiled code should be stored within the heap of the virtual machine. After that code has been compiled and deleted from the heap, an exception occurs when the virtual machine attempts to subsequently access the compiled code. At that point, the virtual machine is then enabled to retrieve the desired code from an interpreted programming language application.
Abstract:
Multiple food menu items are retrieved from a data storage medium by a data processing system with access to the data storage medium via a communications medium. The multiple food menu items are compared with previously stored food preferences for a particular customer. A food menu is selected, wherein the food menu items that satisfy said food preferences for said particular customer are distinguished, such that an electronic food menu is specified for a particular customer.
Abstract:
Environmental indicators computed for a particular environment are converted into a transmittable data format each of the environmental indicators is computed by electronic environmental measurement device from among multiple diverse electronic environmental measurement devices. Environmental indicators are transmitted to a portable data processing system associated with a user, which analyzes each of the environmental indicators according to an environment sensitivity profile stored at the portable data processing system for the user. Control signals are determined by the portable computer system for adjusting multiple environment control systems that control the particular environment in response to the analysis, such that a particular environment is temporarily managed by a portable data processing system according to environmental sensitivities of a particular user located within that particular environment.
Abstract:
According to the present invention, current fitness indicators for a particular user are detected by a particular exercise machine monitoring device that monitors exercise performed by the particular user on a particular exercise machine. The current fitness indicators are transmitted in a particular transmittable data format to a universally accessible server system in accordance with a universal identifier associated with the particular user and stored at said universally accessible server system in accordance with the universal identifier as current fitness activity, such that real-time fitness activity for a user computed from fitness activity received from any of multiple diverse exercise machines over a period of time is monitored by a universally accessible server system according to a universal identifier for a particular user.
Abstract:
Data records transmitted from a plurality of vehicles are collected at a central data repository, where realtime or batch analysis and profiling can take place to facilitate vehicle fleet maintenance. Preferably, each data record includes data derived by synchronizing on-board diagnostic computer output and GPS 3-dimensional location data, correlated by time and tagged with vehicle identification information, and is forwarded to the central data repository via cellular Internet. The central data repository includes analysis and profiling routines to identify immediate operational problems on a given vehicle, e.g., engine overheating, as well as overall fleet operational behavior, i.e. which vehicles, drivers and routes lead, over time, to increased maintenance costs. As data is collected over time, the experience database becomes more and more valuable and enables the fleet manager to improve its fleet operational decisions, such as route scheduling, maintenance scheduling, vehicle purchasing, driver assignments, and the like.
Abstract:
Current health parameters for a user are monitored at a personal health monitoring system. Current health parameters include multiple monitored physical parameters and multiple monitored environmental parameters. The current health parameters are compared with health allowances for the user. A control signal for transmission to a health control device that controls at least one parameter from among the multiple physical parameters and multiple environmental parameters is determined in response to determining that at least one of the current health parameters exceeds at least one of the health allowances, such that the at least one current health parameter that exceeds the at least one of the health allowances is adjusted by the health control device according to the control signal in order to balance the comprehensive health of the user.
Abstract:
A graphical user interface layout is defined by a resource definition file having a set of resource directives associated therewith. A method of translating the layout to native Java source code begins by identifying each resource file directive associated with the window layout. For each resource file directive, or for each subdirective within a file directive or subdirective, the method generates a stub or "snippet" of Java code. The Java code snippets may be generated by direct code or by using a text-editable file interface, and the snippets are then combined to created a Java source file.
Abstract:
In accordance with the method, system, and program of the present invention, consumer preferences designated for a user are transmitted in a transmittable data format from a portable data processing system associated with the user to multiple independent server systems each associated with a consumer provider from among multiple diverse consumer providers. Specialized services and products from each of the diverse consumer providers are designated for the user at each of the independent server systems, in response to comparing the consumer preferences for the user with a database of services and products at each of the independent server systems. The designated specialized services and products are transmitted to the portable data processing system in the transmittable data format, such that a consumer provider from among multiple diverse consumer providers adjusts offerings of services and products provided to a particular user via a portable data processing system according to electronically received consumer preferences for the particular user.
Abstract:
A method, system, and program for automatically adjusting window representations based on activity are provided. Current activity of a window element displayed within a graphical interface is detected. A representation of the window element is automatically adjusted within the display area to reflect current activity of the window element, such that the representation of the window element is graphically represented. In particular, the window element representation may include a minimized icon or an open window. Further, window element activity may include use of the window element, adjustments to the transparency of the window element representation or current resource usage associated with the window element.
Abstract:
According to the present invention, dietary needs designated for a particular user are received in a common transmittable data format at a data processing system associated with a particular home base, wherein the data processing system has access to multiple electronic recipes. The dietary needs designated for the particular user are compared with a selection of electronic recipes that are preparable at the particular home base from among the multiple accessible electronic recipes. At least one meal plan is designated from among the selection of electronic recipes that satisfies the dietary needs of the particular user, such that an electronic meal plan is specified on said data processing system for preparation at a particular home base according to dietary needs of a particular user.
