Abstract:
Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula (1): where R1 and R2 are each individually selected from a hydrogen atom, a C1 to C3 alkyl group, a C1 to C5 mono or dihydroxyalkyl group; phenyl or benzyl optionally substituted with an alkoxy group, or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a piperazine, piperidine, imidazole, or morpholine ring.
Abstract:
Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula (1): wherein X is selected from halogen and R5SO4 where the halogen is preferably Cl, Br or I; R, R1 and R2 are each individually selected from C1 to C22 alkyl and C1 to C22 mono or dihydroxyalkyl, or two of R, R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a C3 to C6 saturated or unsaturated ring optionally containing in the ring one or more additional hetero atoms selected from O, S and N atoms; R3 and R 4 are each individually selected from C1 to C6 alkyl, C1 to C6 hydroxyalkyl, C1 to C6 alkoxy, C1 to C6 aminoalkyl or R3 and R4 together form a C1 to C5 alkylene group; and R5 is selected from C1 to C22 alkyl and C1 to C22 mono or dihydroxyalkyl.
Abstract:
Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula (1): wherein X is selected from halogen and R2SO4; R3 is selected from C1 to C2 alkyl or hydroxyethyl; R2 is selected from C1 to C22 alkyl and C1 to C22 mono and dihydroxyalkyl; and R is selected from of C1 to C16 alkyl, C1 to C10 hydroxyalkyl, C1 to C6 alkoxyalkyl and benzyl.
Abstract:
Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula at least one coupler comprising a compound of the formula (1): wherein R is selected from of C1 to C2 alkyl and hydroxyethyl, R1 and R2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of C1 to C5 alkyl, C3 to C6 cycloalkyl, C1 to C5 alkoxy, C1 to C5 hydroxyalkyl, C1 to C5 hydroxyalkoxy, or R1 and R2 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a C3 to C6 cycloalkyl group.

Compounds of Formula II ##STR1## wherein R.sub.3 is --COOCH.sub.3, --COCH.sub.3 or --COCH.sub.2 CH.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is hydrogen or R.sub.3 is hydrogen and R.sub.4 is --OCH.sub.3, --OC.sub.2 CH.sub.3, --OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH or --OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3 are storage stable and can be used in oxidative hairdye systems in place of the storage unstable 2-methyl-1-naphthol. Advantageously, it has been found to produce the same colors as 2-methyl-1-naphthol.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for the oxidative coloring of human hair, wherein the compositions contain as a novel primary dye intermediate a 1-(4-aminophenyl)-2-pyrrolidinemethanol, or a cosmetically acceptable salt thereof. The compositions may also contain at least one other primary intermediate and conventional coupling compounds, in addition to an oxidizing agent and other components typically used in oxidative hair dye preparations. A preferred dye intermediate in the composition is 1-(4-aminophenyl)-2-pyrrolidinemethanol or cosmetically acceptable salts thereof, which produce intense black colors when used in admixture with a suitable coupling agents, such as 3-aminophenol, in conventional hair dye base formulations.

Abstract:
4-Halo-1-naphthol is reacted with a secondary amine and formaldehyde to produce a reaction mixture containing a Mannich base which is hydrogenated to produce 2-methyl-1-naphthol. Advantageously, the procedure can be carried out in one pot.
