Abstract:
A valve seat apparatus for use with fluid valves is described. An example valve seat apparatus includes a seat ring having an outer surface that includes a first annular recess and a second annular recess adjacent the first annular recess to form a stepped profile. A seal assembly is disposed within the first groove and a retainer is disposed in the second annular recess to retain the seal assembly in the first annular recess of the seat ring.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and system that provide a high performance and extremely scalable triple store within the Resource Description Framework (or alternative data models), with optimized query execution. An embodiment of the invention provides a data storage and analysis system to support scalable monitoring and analysis of business processes along multiple configurable perspectives and levels of granularity. This embodiment analyses data from processes that have been already executed and from ongoing processes, as a continuous flow of information. This embodiment provides defining and monitoring processes based on no initial domain knowledge about the process and such that the process will be built only from the incoming flow of information. Another embodiment of the invention provides a grid infrastructure that allows storage of data across many grid nodes and distribution of the workload, avoiding the bottleneck represented by constantly querying a database.
Abstract:
Phage peptide display technology was used to identify peptides that bind specifically to the amyloid form of the Aβ1-40 peptide. Peptides with similar structural features and bind to the amyloid form of Aβ1-40 but not to monomeric Aβ1-40, are provided. Such peptides are useful as carrier molecules to deliver therapeutic and diagnostic reagents to amyloid plaques.
Abstract:
A knockout mechanism for a food patty forming machine with one or more knockout cups for ejecting formed food from a cavity of a reciprocating mold plate. A rocker arm moves the knockout cup between a raised position and a knockout position. A linear actuator applies force to the knockout cup to move the knockout cup from the raised position to the knockout position. A spring also applies force on the rocker arm to move the knockout cup.
Abstract:
A system for treating a hydrocarbon containing formation is described. The system includes two or more groups of elongated heaters. The group includes two or more heaters placed in two or more openings in the formation. The heaters in the group are electrically coupled below the surface of the formation. The openings include at least partially uncased wellbores in a hydrocarbon layer of the formation. The groups are electrically configured such that current flow through the formation between at least two groups is inhibited. The heaters are configured to provide heat to the formation.
Abstract:
In some embodiments, the present invention relates to methods or suppressing edge ringing in images. For example, in some embodiments a method of processing an image to suppress ringing and broadened edges induced by image correction processing, includes high-pass filtering a first image to obtain a second image, processing said second image including applying non-linear apodization to said second image to obtain a third image, low-pass filtering said first image to obtain a fourth image, and combining the third image and the fourth image to obtain an output image, wherein the output image is characterized by having reduced edge-response sidelobes as compared to the first images. In some embodiments, the present invention relates to devices comprising means and/or modules to suppress edge ringing in images.
Abstract:
A shock-absorbing structure comprises a frame having front and rear sides. The frame provides mounting points for first and second shock-absorbing assemblies. The mounting points are located side-by-side across a transverse dimension of the frame and may be provided on a single frame member. The frame has front and rear faces each capable of supporting a linear slide to which a seat or other item may be attached. A first shock-absorbing assembly is mounted to the first mounting point and coupled to a first seat or other item supported on a linear slide on one of the front and rear faces of the frame. The shock absorbing structure may be applied to support seats in a boat or other vehicle.

Abstract:
An uninterruptible power supply (“UPS”) has a phase-controlled rectifier coupled to a source of AC power and having an output providing a DC bus, the output of the phase-controlled rectifier coupled to an inverter. A first controller generates a firing angle for the rectifier and a fuzzy logic controller generates a firing angle for the rectifier. In an aspect, the rectifier is controlled by the firing angle generated by the first controller during normal operating conditions of the UPS and the rectifier is controlled by the firing angle generated by the fuzzy logic controller during abnormal operating conditions of the UPS. The abnormal operating conditions can include loss of a direct DC bus voltage measurement and or a period of time after the UPS experiences a large load change. In an aspect, the firing angle generated by the first controller is compared to the firing angle generated by the fuzzy logic controller and a rectifier fault condition determined to exist when the two firing angles differ by at least a threshold amount. In an aspect, the first controller is a PI controller.
