    Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with input-output devices and other components such as optical components that emit light and optical components that detect light. An optical component covering structure may be interposed between an interior region of the electronic device and an exterior region that surrounds the electronic device. The optical components may be formed in the interior region of the electronic device. The optical component covering structure may overlap the optical components. The optical component covering structure may be configured to exhibit a flat visible light transmission spectrum. This neutral light transmission characteristic allows the overlapped optical components to emit and/or receive light through the optical component covering structure without imposing an undesired color cast. The optical component covering structure may include first and second layers with complementary light transmission characteristics. When viewed from the exterior region, the optical component covering structure may exhibit a non-neutral color.

    Abstract: An electronic device may have a display for displaying images. The display may be coupled to a housing on a front face of the device. The housing may have a transparent portion on an opposing rear face of the device. The electronic device may have structures with an adjustable appearance. The adjustable-appearance structures may include a mask with openings or other mask elements and a corresponding overlapped patterned layer containing an array of visual elements. The visual elements may have different appearances, so that movement of the mask relative to the patterned layer changes the appearance of the adjustable-appearance structures. The state of the adjustable-appearance structure may be changed during use of the device by a user or may be adjusted then fixed during manufacturing.

    Abstract: An electronic device such as a head-mounted device may have a transparent member supported by head-mounted support structures. Optical sensors such as time-of-flight sensors and other optical sensors may have light-emitting components and light-detecting components. A stray light blocking structure may be formed in the transparent member. The stray light blocking structure may be configured to block stray light that is traveling laterally through an interior portion of the polymer layer. This prevents the stray light from being received by the light-detecting detecting device. The stray light blocking structure may formed by providing the polymer layer with light redirecting structures such as protrusions and/or recesses. Light-absorbing coatings and/or patterned surfaces such as textured surfaces may be incorporated into the stray light blocking structure.

    Abstract: A system such as a vehicle may have windows. A window may be provided with a light modular or other active layer having an electrically adjustable optical property. The active layer may have a pair of electrodes. The electrodes may be used to apply electric fields across the active layer to adjust the active layer. A lower sheet resistance electrode may be supplied with a current to ohmically heat the active layer. A higher sheet resistance electrode may be supplied with a voltage gradient to create a gradient in light transmission or other optical property as a function of distance across the higher sheet resistance electrode. The electrodes may be provided with terminals that are formed from elongated strips of metal or other terminal structures. The terminals may run along the peripheral edges of the electrodes.

    Abstract: A window such as a vehicle window may have an infrared-light-blocking area formed from an infrared-light-blocking layer. The window may also have an infrared-light-transparent area formed from an infrared-light-transparent layer that is not covered by the infrared-light-blocking layer. The infrared-light-transparent layer may have a conductive layer that is transparent to near-infrared light such as a conductive oxide layer or a metal layer. The infrared-light-blocking layer may have one or more layers of infrared-light-reflecting material such a silver layer that is electrically coupled to the conductive layer in the infrared-light-transmitting layer. Ohmic heating current may be passed to the conductive layer in the infrared-light-transmitting layer through the conductive layer in the infrared-light-blocking layer or through elongated metal contacts that run along edges of the infrared-light-transmitting layer.
