Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for segregating target individuals represented in a probe digital image from background pixels in the probe digital image. In particular, in one or more embodiments, the disclosed systems and methods train a neural network based on two or more of training position channels, training shape input channels, training color channels, or training object data. Moreover, in one or more embodiments, the disclosed systems and methods utilize the trained neural network to select a target individual in a probe digital image. Specifically, in one or more embodiments, the disclosed systems and methods generate position channels, training shape input channels, and color channels corresponding the probe digital image, and utilize the generated channels in conjunction with the trained neural network to select the target individual.

Abstract: Certain embodiments involve using labels to track high-frequency offsets for patch-matching. For example, a processor identifies an offset between a first source image patch and a first target image patch. If the first source image patch and the first target image patch are sufficiently similar, the processor updates a data structure to include a label specifying the offset. The processor associates, via the data structure, the first source image patch with the label. The processor subsequently selects certain high-frequency offsets, including the identified offset, from frequently occurring offsets in the data structure. The processor uses these offsets to identify a second target image patch, which is located at the identified offset from a second source image patch. The processor associates, via the data structure, the second source image patch with the identified offset based on a sufficient similarity between the second source image patch and the second target image patch.

Abstract: Techniques for removing artifacts, such as shadows, from document images are described. A shadow map is generated for a digital image by first determining local background colors using clusters of local pixel intensities. Then, a global reference background color is selected from all pixel intensities of the digital image. Next, a per-pixel scaling factor is determined that maps the local background colors to the global reference background color, which applies localized adjustment to the digital image to remove local shadow.

Abstract: An image is displayed using a computer system. The image includes contents that have a visible feature therein at a first location. A first input is received that includes a user movement of at least the visible feature from the first location. During the user movement, the first location is synthesized with content from where the visible feature is currently located. A second input is received that specifies an end of the user movement at a second location. A source area in the image is identified. The method further includes identifying additional contents within the source area. The additional contents are identified using a patch-based optimization algorithm on the image. The method further includes updating the image to have the additional contents at least in the first location.

Abstract: Techniques and apparatus for automatic upright adjustment of digital images. An automatic upright adjustment technique is described that may provide an automated approach for straightening up slanted features in an input image to improve its perceptual quality. This correction may be referred to as upright adjustment. A set of criteria based on human perception may be used in the upright adjustment. A reprojection technique that implements an optimization framework is described that yields an optimal homography for adjustment based on the criteria and adjusts the image according to new camera parameters generated by the optimization. An optimization-based camera calibration technique is described that simultaneously estimates vanishing lines and points as well as camera parameters for an image; the calibration technique may, for example, be used to generate estimates of camera parameters and vanishing points and lines that are input to the reprojection technique.
