摘要： In a sorter for sorting sheets fed from a sequential source of sheets, with a closely vertically spaced array of sorter bins, and apparatus to vertically move the array of sorter bins relative to the source of sheets for sequentially loading individual sheets into individual sorter bins, the improvement including partially horizontally displacing one individual sorter bin at a time from the superposed array, in coordination with the vertical movement, towards the source of sheets to provide an enlarged bin entry opening without requiring any change in the vertical spacing between the bins, and subsequently horizontally moving a bin so displaced back into vertically superposed alignment with the other bins of the array. Also disclosed is stapling sheets sorted into the bins, wherein the same system for partially horizontally displacing the sorter bins also functions to move one displaced bin at a time into the stapler for stapling the sheets sorted in that bin without removal therefrom. The system for partially horizontally displacing the sorter bins may utilize individual pins connecting with respective individual sorter bins in a substantially vertically aligned array and an open jaw actuating system through which the array of pins is movable, which open jaw is adapted to engage and horizontally move a selected pin therein. An alternative cam track system with a horizontal displacement transition therein is also disclosed for this function.

摘要： An integrated apparatus comprises a sheet supply maintaining cut sheets of media and a printing device positioned to receive the cut sheets of media from the sheet supply. The sheet supply may comprise a plurality of sheet feeders. The printing device places markings on the cut sheets of media. Further, this apparatus includes an adhesive applicator positioned to apply adhesive to one side of the sheets to produce labels; and a roll apparatus maintaining a continuous supply roll of backing media. The roll apparatus is positioned to receive the labels from the adhesive applicator, and the backing media is positioned within the roll apparatus to contact the adhesive-applied side of the labels.

A belt for transporting a substrate media or at least a partial image into a plurality of panels is segmented. A first one of the panels has a first location on the belt for receiving substrate media or a partial image. A first belt motion error value corresponding to the first one of the panels on the belt is identified and at least one image marking unit is calibrated to counteract the first belt motion error corresponding to the first one of the panels.

摘要： A media hold down apparatus including a media transport including a transport surface having a plurality of vacuum openings formed therein in fluid communication with a vacuum source. The media transport is adapted to move substrate media in a process direction past a print zone. The transport surface includes a first recess extending in a cross-process direction along a portion of a width of a first sheet of substrate media transport. The recess is disposed on the media transport such that the recess lies beneath one of a leading or trailing edge portion of the first sheet of substrate media. The recess is in communication with the vacuum source, wherein the vacuum urges the one of a leading or trailing edge portion toward the recess on to the transport surface.

A first motion encoder is operatively connected with the first media transport, configured and operative to output a first signal dependent upon the motion of the first media transport surface. A second media transport with a second drive unit and second motion encoder is configured and operative to receive the substrate media from the first media transport and to convey the substrate media. The second drive unit drives the motion of the second media transport with substantially the same surface velocity as the first media transport. The first and second media transports are each operative to hold the substrate media in contact therewith, with respective first and second hold-down forces that may be different magnitudes, including the first hold down force of the first media transport having a greater magnitude than the second hold down force of the second media transport while the substrate media is at least partially within the marking zone and is subjected to both the first and second hold down forces.
