A method and apparatus for selecting and updating a replacement candidate in a cache is disclosed. In one embodiment, a cache miss may initiate the eviction of a present replacement candidate in a last-level cache. The cache miss may also initiate the selection of a future replacement candidate. Upon the selection of the future replacement candidate, the corresponding cache line may be invalidated in lower-level caches but remain resident in the last-level cache. The future replacement candidate may be updated by subsequent hits to the replacement candidate in the last-level cache prior to a subsequent cache miss.

A barrier for containing an explosion in a room or the like. The barrier is a structural panel comprising a base sheet, a plurality of truncated polyhedral elements secured to and projecting from the base sheet, and a face sheet covering and secured to the truncated apexes of the polyhedral elements. The face sheet is constructed to separate from the polyhedral elements to expose them in the event of an explosion. Each polyhedral element is constructed to collapse in the event of an explosion, is filled with a liquid, and has an opening therein that is closed by a closure device that is openable or removable in response to the collapse of the polyhedral element caused by an explosion. The openings in the polyhedral elements are of a size to effect a misting action of the liquid therein when it is ejected from the openings by the collapse of the polyhedral elements caused by the explosion. The liquid mist serves to absorb and dissipate the heat and energy of the explosion.

An additive concentrate suitable for incorporation into a finished lubricating oil composition is disclosed. The additive concentrate comprises:(a) a lubricating oil, and(b) a lubricating oil soluble sulphurized or non-sulphurized alkaline earth metal hydrocarbyl phenate modified by incorporation from 2 to less than 40% by weight based on the weight of said concentrate of either (i) at least one carboxylic acid having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a C.sub.10 to C.sub.24 alkyl or alkenyl group and R.sup.1 is either hydrogen, a C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl group or a --CH.sub.2 --COOH group, or an anhydride, acid chloride or ester thereof or (ii) a di- or polycarboxylic acid containing from 36 to 100 carbon atoms or an anhydride, acid chloride or ester thereof, said concentrate having a TBN greater than 300, and a viscosity at 100.degree. C. of less than 1,000 cSt. A process for making the foregoing concentrate is disclosed. A finished lubricating oil composition containing the foregoing concentrate is also disclosed.
摘要:
The present invention provides a method for maintaining cache coherency while minimizing the power consumption. The method includes operating a first processor in a reduced power mode. While the first processor is operating in a reduced power mode, certain portions of the internal logic in the first processor remain clocked so that the first processor continues to monitor transactions on the system bus. The second processor runs a transaction on the system bus to request data. In the event that the first processor determines that the transaction by the second processor is requesting cache data that is stored in the first processor in a modified state, the first processor signals the second processor. After the current bus cycle is completed, the first processor writes back the modified cache line on the system bus and second processor re-runs the transaction on the system bus.
摘要:
A multiprocessing system maintains cache coherency during a reduced power mode of operation. The multiprocessing system has a first and a second processor coupled to the bus to perform data transactions with the main memory. During the reduced power mode of operation, the internal clock signal of the second processor is decoupled from a portion of the internal logic of the second processor while remaining coupled to a portion of the internal logic of the second processor that is used to monitor and respond to the traffic on the external bus to maintain cache coherency. During the reduced power mode of operation, the second processor continues to perform snoop and write-back processes to maintain a cache coherent multiprocessing system.
