Abstract:
Protective eyewear of the invention includes at least one lens and a frame securing the lens. Temples or a retention strap are provided for attaching the protective eyewear to the head of a user. The frame includes a seal member around the lens with ventilation channels formed in the seal member on its surface for contacting the face of the user. Thus, the seal member forms a substantial enclosure between the lens and the face of the user when the eyewear is worn. The ventilation channels extend into the seal member towards the lens to a depth not reaching the lens and ensure free passage of air from the enclosure to the atmosphere so that moisture condensation on the lens is reduced or eliminated.
Abstract:
There is provided an optical insert for transforming conventional eyewear into eyewear having an additional purpose. The optical insert comprises an extender portion which holds a lens on a first end and a mounting assembly on a second end opposite the first end. The mounting assembly comprises a profile which matches the profile of the conventional eyewear lens retainer. The lens of the conventional eyewear is configured to be removed and replaced with the optical insert. In one embodiment, the lens of the optical insert can comprise dark lenses which can be useful, for example, to transform conventional eyeglasses into prescription sunglasses.
Abstract:
A flexible eyewear assembly is described. The assembly includes first and second rigid frame portions each having an opening therein. The assembly also includes a flexible component. The flexible component includes first and second lens retainers configured to engage the first and second rigid frame portions along an inner edge thereof adjacent the respective opening, and sized to retain first and second lenses therein; and a flexible bridge portion connecting the first lens retainer to the second lens retainer, to connect the first and second rigid frame portions with separation therebetween, when the first and second lens retainers are engaged with the flexible component.
Abstract:
There is provided an impact absorbing element for eyewear, comprising a compressible and deformable impact absorbing material sized to fit over at least a portion of a lower edge of a lens of the eyewear, the impact absorbing material comprising an outer portion and an inner portion, at least one of which is capable of deforming against a wearer of the eyewear when the eyewear experiences an impact. There is also provided eyewear comprising at least one lens; a frame supporting the at least one lens; and the impact absorbing element.
Abstract:
There is provided a frame support member for eyewear having a frame, with the frame including a nose bridge. The frame support member includes an attachment portion at a first end thereof for coupling the frame support member to the nose bridge of the eyewear, and a nose engaging portion at a second end thereof. The frame support member is configured to position the nose engaging portion below and behind the nose bridge for supporting the eyewear on a user. There is also provided eyewear that includes a frame for supporting at least one lens, a nose bridge for supporting the frame on a user, and the frame support member as herein described. A frame support assembly is also provided, which includes the frame support member and an extender to be coupled to the eyewear frame.
Abstract:
An eyewear frame structure for holding at least one lens thereto, includes a base frame, a front frame attached to a front of the base frame and a comfort bar attached to a back side of the base frame. The frame structure has a plurality of vent passages extending therethrough. Each vent passage includes a substantially horizontal section defined between the base frame and the front frame, and a substantially vertical section defined between the base frame and the comfort bar.
Abstract:
A method of making an eyewear frame having substantially rigid sections joined with a soft and/or flexible nose bridge. The substantially rigid sections and soft and/or flexible nose bridge are made in separate molding processes. The cured substantially rigid sections and cured soft and/or flexible nose bridge are then joined together in a further molding process by injecting a bonding material into interfaces between the soft and/or flexible nose bridge and the respective substantially rigid sections. The eyewear frame may be painted. A pre-painting surface treatment may be applied to the soft and/or flexible nose bridge before it is joined with the substantially rigid right and left sections.
Abstract:
Eyewear according to one embodiment includes a primary frame retainer, at least one primary lens and a clip-on lens assembly removably attachable to the front of the primary frame by magnetic forces interacting between two magnets affixed to the primary frame and the clip-on lens assembly, respectively. The clip-on lens assembly includes a connector affixed to a secondary frame of the clip-on lens assembly. The connector has a hook removably engagable with a recess defined in the primary frame for positioning the clip-on lens assembly with respect to the primary frame.
