Sulfur recovery, either before or after regeneration, is accomplished by separation of the sulfur-containing admixture into lean and concentrated solutions, and by extracting the concentrated solution with a compound having the formula C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 OH, wherein n is a number from 4 through 18.
