摘要: A method of updating multi-media content at a digital download kiosk is described. The method comprises receiving a secure portable storage device into a portable device reader/writer in the kiosk; reading the secure portable storage device to ascertain if authorized multi-media content is stored thereon; uploading the multi-media content from the secure portable storage device to a data store accessible by the kiosk; and indicating when the multi-media content has been uploaded. The portable storage device may have been received by mail from a supplier, and the method may further comprise removing the portable storage device from the portable storage device reader/writer, and returning the removed portable storage device to the supplier by mail.

摘要: A room humidifying apparatus is provided which operates with minimum cost and without any electrical power. The humidifier is located so as to make use of a stream of air coming from a register. The humidifier has a casing carrying a main water tank, a water pan and an evaporative filter element which are located in the casing. The tank drips water onto the filter element, which has a lower portion located in the water pan to collect any excess water dripping down the filter element and also to moisten it with capillary effect. Heated air from the register becomes humidified on passing through the filter element. The water tank can be filled manually from the top or be detachable and filled through a bottom refill opening. Alternatively, the water tank can be connected to a water source with a valve to regulate the flow of water into the water tank. The water tank may be balanced so as to displace, for example tilt, from a first position when it contains water to a second position when it is empty.

摘要: Systems and techniques for self service delivery of content stored on removable media. A self service terminal stores a plurality of titles in a repository, and copies of titles are stored to removable media devices maintained in the self service terminal. In response to a user selection of an available title made during a transaction, a removable media device storing a copy of the selected title is delivered to the user. Anticipated demand is estimated and titles are stored to removable devices as needed to maintain an inventory to meet the estimated demand, including overwriting existing titles already stored on removable media, and overwriting returned media as needed.

摘要: Computer systems having operating systems that provide plug and play functionality for peripheral devices such as printers, web cameras, keyboards, mice and the like are known. These allow peripheral devices to be connected to the computer system in an ad hoc manner. However, if communication between a peripheral and such a computer system is lost during a time period when that computer system is shut down, no indication of this loss is given by the plug and play operating system. A method is described here for issuing error messages if communication between a peripheral and a computer system is lost. A persistent store is used to keep a record of peripherals in communication with the computer and this record is compared with detected information about presence of peripherals. The error messages may optionally be transferred to a remote management system via a communications network.

摘要: Data transfer to a remote packet-communicating device over a network is effected using a network-based cache to selectively store data. According to an example embodiment of the present invention, a network-based server facilitates selective, rule-based storage of a registered user's data in a network-based cache. The registered user's data is available via the user's data source coupled to a packet-based network (e.g., via a user's home or business computer coupled to the Internet). The server controls remote access to data stored in the cache as well as data accessible via the registered user's data source. For instance, when a request for data transfer is received from a remote packet-communicating device, the network-based server authenticates the request and, for authenticated requests, facilitates a transfer of the requested data from one or both of a registered user's data source and the cache.
