摘要: A composite wound dressing apparatus promotes healing of a wound via the use of a micropump system housed within or above a wound dressing member. The micropump system includes a miniature pump that applies a subatmospheric pressure to the wound to effectively draw wound fluid or exudate away from the wound bed without the need for a cumbersome external vacuum source. Hence, the wound dressing and micropump system is portable which allows the patient mobility that is unavailable when an external vacuum source is used. The patient does not need to be constrained for any period of time while exudate is being removed from the wound.

摘要: A device, a method of making a device and a method of inserting a device into a tubular path. The device includes a tubular sheath with one or more helical slots formed therein and a control element that fits within the sheath. In one form, the device is an endoluminal device that simultaneously improves flexibility and structural rigidity though variations in one or both of slot width along the length of the slot and slot pitch along the length of the tubular sheath. When the operator pulls at the proximal end of the control element while holding the outer sheath in place, the slots will tend to close in a preferential manner such that more precise control of device length and bending is enabled, while simultaneously providing improvements in structural rigidity during device insertion and navigation through a body lumen or related tubular member where tortuous paths may be encountered along the member path.

摘要: A new method of targeted drug administration to wounds (surgical or traumatic), intrasite (IS), offers advantages in treatment efficacy and safety over traditional routes of administration. A novel method of dosing IS medications based on wound surface area provides the parameters for safe and effective dosing, a necessary advance for any FDA approval. Large IS doses increase risk of toxicity from impurities allowed in drugs given by other routes. Methods are presented for ultrapurification, particularly of endotoxins. Methods are presented for sterile delivery to the wound, to prevent aerosolization, and to homogenize application. Pharmacodynamic parameters make certain drugs advantageous as IS agents, including slow trans-wound surface diffusion, protein binding, and limited local tissue toxicity. Vancomycin is a prototypical drug with these features and is therefore very useful as an IS medication. Other drugs, including but not limited to rifaximin, possess similar pharmacodynamics and may be useful IS pharmaceuticals, delivered alone or in combination with other drugs, carriers, or materials. All of these attributes are advantages over traditional administration methods.

摘要: The invention relates to a wound bed access device for providing access to a wound bed from outside a closed wound. The wound bed access device includes a self-sealing valve connector defining a flow path which is ordinarily closed and is opened when a complementary opening connector is connected to the self-sealing valve connector. The wound bed access device also includes a wound dressing interface, shaped and dimensioned to be closed within a wound dressing covering a wound. The self-sealing valve connector is connected to the wound dressing interface, with the flow path passing from the self-sealing valve connector through the wound dressing interface. In use, the self-sealing valve connector is positioned outside the wound dressing thereby providing access to the wound bed from outside the closed wound.

The skin contacting element is configured for covering an associated tissue site, the reactor for creating a pressure condition at the associated tissue site upon actuation thereof, and the reactor housing element for accommodating the reactor. The skin contacting element has a skin contacting side and an interface side, which is opposite the skin contacting side. The reactor housing element has a lower affixing side and an upper side, which is opposite the lower affixing side.

摘要: Embodiments for a cerebrospinal fluid flow detector for detecting the flow of cerebrospinal fluid are disclosed. In some embodiments, the cerebrospinal fluid flow detector includes a casing with a rotatable wheel having a plurality of radially extending arms disposed therein. The rotatable wheel is in communication with a channel having a distal end in communication with an inlet port and a proximal end in communication with an outlet port such that the flow of cerebrospinal fluid through the channel causes the rotatable wheel to rotate. In some embodiments, each radially extending arm includes at least one radiopaque marker in which movement of the rotatable wheel caused by fluid flow through the channel allows an X-ray imaging apparatus to detect the difference in position of a respective radiopaque marker at multiple times caused by rotation of the rotatable wheel.

摘要: Glaucoma treatment systems are disclosed. In various example, the glaucoma treatment systems include a body and a fluid conduit configured to facilitate an evacuation of fluid, such as aqueous humor, from a fluid-filled body cavity, such as an anterior chamber of an eye. In some examples, the fluid conduit is soft and compliant, and the glaucoma treatment system includes one or more stiffening members coupled with the fluid conduit to temporarily stiffen the fluid conduit and help aid in the delivery of the glaucoma treatment device. In some examples, the stiffening members are removable from the fluid conduit after the glaucoma treatment system has been implanted.

The center body includes a first end, second end, and a number of fluidly separate body conduits. The first end has a port for receiving a conduit in fluid communication with the tissue site. The second end cap is connected to the second end of the center body and includes a number of return conduits fluidly connecting one body conduit to another. The second end cap has a port for receiving a conduit in fluid communication with a reduced pressure source. The fluid connection between the body conduits and the return conduits creates a continuous, tortuous pathway.
