    摘要: Interference is reduced with a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system having a set of basestations including a first basestation and a second basestation is reduced. Signals associated with the first basestation having its own antenna elements are received. The first basestation is associated with its own mobile stations each having their own antenna elements. Each signal associated with the first basestation is uniquely associated with a mobile station associated with the first basestation. Signals associated with the second basestation having its own antenna elements are received. The second basestation is associated with its own mobile stations each having their own antenna elements. Each signal associated with the second basestation is uniquely associated with a mobile station associated with the second basestation. Signals associated with the first basestation are jointly detected in conjunction with the signals associated with the second basestation to produce a set of detected signals.

    摘要: A MIMO OFDM system includes a plurality of space-time encoders for encoding respective data blocks with independent space-time codes. The transformed data block signals are transmitted by a plurality of transmit antennas and received by a plurality of receive antennas. The received data is pre-whitened prior to maximum likelihood detection. In one embodiment, successive interference cancellation can be sued to improve system performance. Channel parameter estimation can be enhanced by weighting the channel impulse response estimates based upon a deviation from average.

    摘要: A wireless communication system and method includes antenna arrays at both the transmitter and receiver having a plurality of elements for very high data rate communication. Phased array antennas or directive fixed beam antennas are used with a beamwidth in azimuth and elevation less than 30° to increase the power margin and to decrease the delay spread of signals at the receiver to permit wireless data communications at high data rates in closed environments, for example, bursty transmissions and isochronous communications. The wireless communication system is capable of data transmission rates which exceed 1 Gbps with propagation losses of up to at least 60 dB relative to one meter.

A receiver first samples signals received on each antenna and the channel characteristics for each received signal is calculated. The signal-to-interference-plus-noise (SINR) ratio for various combinations of antennas is estimated using the channel characteristics and a subset of antennas and accompanying weights are determined that can provide an advantageous SINR.

    摘要: A method of locating a mobile telephone includes steps of receiving, transmitting, increasing and determining. In the receiving step, a first base station receives a call from a mobile telephone, the call including a dialed number and a TDMA signal. In the transmitting step, the base station transmits a control message to the mobile telephone when the dialed number meets a predetermined criterion, such as being 911. The control message instructs the mobile telephone to transmit the TDMA signal at a maximum power. In the increasing step, the mobile telephone increases the TDMA signal to maximum power in response to the control message. Then in the determining step, location information for the mobile telephone is determined based on at least one characteristic of the TDMA signal received at at least one of the first base station and other base stations. In an alternate embodiment, the method is practiced in a mobile telephone and the power level is automatically increased in response to the dialed number meeting a predetermined criterion.
