A deterioration characteristic calculating unit calculates the average value of the deterioration characteristics of the objects based on data related to the degrees of soundness of the plurality of objects that is received by the data receiving unit. A heterogeneous parameter calculating unit calculates a heterogeneous parameter for each heterogeneous factor that cannot be observed or is difficult to observe, and causes a variation in the deterioration characteristics. A benchmarking unit evaluates the influence of the heterogeneous factors on the deterioration characteristics based on the heterogeneous parameters, and an output unit outputs the evaluation result.

A thermal deformation-preventing layer composed of a material having a thermal expansion coefficient smaller than that of the insulating protective layer is disposed in the insulating protective layer in such a way as to locate between a medium-facing surface and the electrically conductive bump without being exposed at the medium-facing surface. In the resulting thin film magnetic head, protrusion of the recording and playback element toward the recording medium side can be prevented without changing the configuration of the recording and playback element nor the forming material.

Two columns of coil contact groups that are formed on both end portions of individual coil wires of the upper coil wire group and the lower coil wire group, connect both end portions of the coil wires. An insulating resist layer buries a space between coil contacts of the coil contact groups. An inorganic insulating layer buries a space between the two columns of coil contact groups. The upper coil wire group, the lower coil wire group, and the two columns of coil contact groups form a thin film coil that applies a magnetic recording field to the magnetic material layer. The insulating resist layer and the inorganic insulating layer are located at the same lamination height as the two columns of coil contact groups.

    摘要: First and second magnetic layers of a magnetic head face each other. A toroidal coil layer having upper and lower layer coil pieces (ULCP and LLCP) is wound around one of the magnetic layers. The ULCP extend from a first insulating layer by downward steps to a top of a second insulating layer which is widened at ends of the first insulating layer. Side ends of the first insulating layer extend parallel to a height direction. The ULCP are orthogonal to the side ends. Each of the LLCP is formed on a third insulating layer and has a straight region extending in the same direction as the upper layer coil pieces and a curved region curved toward a facing surface or in a height direction on one end in the track width direction. An end of each of the straight and curved region is connected to an ULCP.
