    摘要: Method and apparatus for casting metal strip in which molten metal is introduced between a pair of parallel casting rollers (16) via a tundish (18) and metal delivery nozzle (19). Casting rollers (16) are cooled so that shells solidify on the moving roller surfaces and are brought together at the nip between them to produce a solidified strip product (20) at the roller outlet. A clean head end of the strip (20) is formed by adjusting the nip of the casting rollers to form a transverse bulge (103) across the width of the strip. The two separate solidified metal shells (105) and defines a line of weakness across the width of the strip. The strip separates at the line of weakness to form a clean head end for the following strip.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for casting metal strip in which molten metal is introduced between a pair of parallel casting rollers (16) via a tundish (18) and delivery nozzle (19). Casting rollers (16) are cooled so that shells solidify on the moving roller surfaces and are brought together at the nip between them to produce a solidified strip product (20) at the roller outlet. The tundish (18), delivery nozzle (19) and a pair of side closure plates (56) to confine the pool of metal on the casting rollers are separately preheated to working temperature and then rapidly brought into an operative assembly and casting is started before detrimental uneven or localized cooling of the preheated components can develop. To avoid material deterioration and metal flow irregularities due to oxidation on preheating, the delivery nozzle (19) and side closure plates (56) are provided with oxidation retarding coatings, for example in the form of ceramic glazing, or are preheated in an inert atmosphere.

    摘要: Intended is to provide a casting roll having an outer periphery capable of being efficiently cooled.The casting roll has a roll body on which side weirs 11 abut, short tube-shaped supports 13 each coaxially with and protruding from the roll body 12, a stub axle 14 fitted into the support 13, a sleeve 15 fitted over the support 13 and a flange 16 contiguous with the stub axle 14 and abutting on the sleeve 15 on a side away from the roll body 12. The roll body 12 is formed with longitudinal cooling passages 17 passing through the roll from one end to the other end of the roll as well as radial cooling passages 18 each adjacent to a corresponding end of the roll and extending from an inner periphery of the roll to a corresponding longitudinal cooling passage 17. A plug 19 is fitted into each end of the longitudinal cooling passages 17 and abuts on the sleeve 15. With distance T3 between the longitudinal cooling passages 17 and the outer periphery of the roll body 12 being reduced as much as possible, cooling water W is passed through a surficial portion of the roll body 12.

    摘要: A nozzle end is provided with an extension 11 which has a lower portion immersed in a molten metal pool and extends toward a side weir 2 such that a stagnation area disappears on a free liquid surface of molten metal.The extension 11 is in the form of a quadrangular pyramid lying sidelong and is converged to a point P1 extremely close to the side weir 2. According to this molten metal feed nozzle, a stagnation area on a free liquid surface of molten metal is displaced by the extension 11 contiguous with the nozzle end to suppress generation of an unwanted solidification shell. Thus, no unwanted solidification shell is pinched as foreign matter by solidification shells generated on outer peripheries of chilled rolls 1 for production of a strip and break of a strip derived from enlargement of nip between the rolls can be averted.

At least one of the rolls comprises a copper or copper alloy tube providing the external peripheral roll surface and internal water cooling passages to cool the cylindrical tube by flowing water through the passages. The copper or copper alloy tube is fitted to a cylindrical arbor formed with end shafts for mounting the roll in journal bearings. Shaft is provided with a rotary drive coupling and shaft is fitted with a rotary water coupling for flow of cooling water to the water flow passages.

C. or below.

    摘要: A metal strip casting apparatus has parallel casting rolls having a nip between them, and a molten metal delivery device for delivery of molten metal into the nip. A casting pool of molten metal is formed in the nip, and pool confining members engage the casting rolls at opposite ends of the nip. A roll drive apparatus is provided to drive the casting rolls in opposite directions, to form a metal strip at the nip. A first chamber forming device extends from the metal delivery means to the casting rolls, to form a pressurizing chamber. Pressurizing chamber seals are formed with the casting rolls on either side of the casting pool. A second chamber forming device is provided, and extends to the rolls to form a gas sealing chamber about the pressurizing chamber, and forms sealing chamber seals with the casting rolls. Gas escaping the pressurizing chamber through the pressure chamber seals will therefore enter the gas sealing chamber. A non-oxidizing gas is delivered to the pressurizing chamber. A second gas is delivered to the sealing chamber to pressurize the sealing chamber. A pressure control device is provided to maintain a superatmospheric pressure of the second gas in the sealing chamber. The configuration inhibits leakage of the non-oxidizing gas from the pressurizing chamber.

    摘要: An apparatus for forming a strip of metal which includes: a tundish for receiving molten metal; a metal delivery nozzle located below the tundish in a position to receive molten metal flowing downward from the tundish; and a pair of chilled rollers, which are capable of being contra-rotated, positioned below the metal delivery nozzle which are adapted to receive molten metal from the metal delivery nozzle into a pool of molten metal formed above the nip of the roller. The tundish is equipped with a series of openings in the base thereof directed toward the metal delivery nozzle through which the molten metal flows, and with an outlet flow control means. The outlet flow control means is a movable plate with apertures therein which substantially coincide with the apertures in the base of the tundish. Means are provided to move the outlet control plate to cause its apertures to go into and/or out of alignment with the apertures in the base of the tundish and thereby regulate the flow of molten metal therethrough. One or more outlet flow control plates can be provided so that flow through all or only a portion of the tundish apertures can be regulated at any given time.
