Abstract: An elevator car (42; 103) for carrying a load in a vertical direction. The elevator car includes at least one elevator car door (38) carrying a door coupling (20) and a camera mount (40) comprising a mounting location (46) for a camera (44). The camera mount (40) is located at the top of the elevator car (42) with the mounting location (46) positioned for a camera (44) to monitor the door coupling (20). The camera mount is deformable at least in the vertical direction, when acted on by a downwards force, such as to protect the door coupling (20) from being impacted by the camera mount (40).

Abstract: An elevator position reference system and a method of monitoring building settlement using such a system. The elevator position reference system includes a hoistway extending in a vertical direction. The system also includes a first position measurement tape extending vertically along a portion of the hoistway and an upper tensioning device, connected to an upper end of the first position measurement tape so as to apply a tensioning force in the upwards vertical direction. A lower end of the first position measurement tape is fixed within the hoistway. The system also includes a second position measurement tape extend vertically along at least some of said portion of the hoistway and a lower tensioning device, connected to a lower end of the second position measurement tape so as to apply a tensioning force in the downwards vertical direction.

Abstract: Counterweights for elevator systems are described. The counterweights include a frame and a counterweight safety system attached to the frame. The safety system includes a safety brake mounted to an upright of the frame and configured to enable engagement with a guide rail to apply a braking force. A sheave is mounted to the frame and configured to operably connect to tension members. The sheave is configured to move between a first position when under tension and a second position when the tension is lost. A connecting link operably connects the sheave to the safety brake. The connecting link has first and second link members operably connected between the sheave and the safety brake.

Abstract: A travelling cable end hitch and rail arrangement for an elevator system includes a rail assembly fixed to an elevator car of the elevator system, a movable device positioned at and movable along the rail assembly, and an end hitch portion of a travelling cable of the elevator system secured to the movable device and movable with the movable device along the rail assembly. A method of accessing a travelling cable end hitch of an elevator system includes accessing a travelling cable from inside of an elevator car, pulling the travelling cable upward from inside of the elevator car, moving an end hitch portion of the travelling cable along a rail assembly secured to a bottom of the elevator car via pulling the travelling cable upward, and inspecting the end hitch portion from inside the elevator car when the end hitch portion reaches a first end of the rail assembly.

Abstract: A runby monitoring system for an elevator system includes a sensor fixed in a hoistway of the elevator system, and a sensed element located at a moving component of the elevator system. The sensor is configured to detect a presence of the sensed element when the sensed element is substantially aligned with the sensor in the hoistway. The detection of the presence of the sensed element at an expected elevator system operational point is indicative of a clearance between the moving component of the elevator system and a lowermost extent of the hoistway within a preselected range.
