Abstract: User equipment associated with a legacy network may utilize a bottom-to-top search technique to identify relevant control channel samples. Generating a control channel that is configured for the bottom-to-top search technique may lead to poor performance in a single-carrier waveform, which may be disadvantageous as networks move toward New Radio. In some aspects, described herein, a base station generates a control channel that is configured to minimize gaps in the control channel, and a user equipment performs a top-to-bottom search technique to identify relevant control channel samples. By using the top-to-bottom search technique, degradation of single-carrier waveforms is reduced and efficiency is improved.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine that uplink communications are to be performed between the UE and a first cell group associated with a first radio access technology (RAT) and between the UE and a second cell group associated with a second RAT. The UE may determine that the UE is configured for power sharing for the uplink communications with the first cell group associated with the first RAT and the second cell group associated with the second RAT. The UE may calculate, based on the power sharing and the uplink communications, a power reduction factor for the uplink communications between the UE and the second cell group. The UE may perform the uplink communications with the first cell group and selectively perform the uplink communications with the second cell group.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems (e.g., new radio (NR) wireless communications systems), a base station may serve a large number of user equipment (UEs). The base station may allocate uplink control channel resources to the UEs. A UE may receive, from the base station, a first resource assignment for a first set of symbols. The UE may also receive, from the base station, a second resource assignment for a second set of symbols, where the first set of symbols and the second set of symbols include an overlapping set of symbols. The UE may modify first resources for the first resource assignment, second resources for the second resource assignment, or both. The UE may then transmit first information based on the first resource assignment.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for increasing physical random access channel (PRACH) capacity using orthogonal cover codes (OCCs) in wireless communications systems are described. A base station may transmit a PRACH configuration that indicates PRACH resources for system access, for example, in a system information block (SIB). A user equipment (UE) may receive the PRACH configuration, and may identify PRACH resources that support OCCs for system access. For example, PRACH configurations with small time domain spacing between PRACH resources may support OCCs. The UE may determine whether to transmit random access (RACH) preamble messages using OCCs in the PRACH resources, and may transmit a RACH preamble message to the base station based on the determination. In some cases, the base station may additionally indicate PRACH resources not configured for OCCs, and the UE may determine which set of resources to transmit in based on one or more parameters.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) are described. A UE may receive a first timing information associated with a first cell and a second timing information associated with a second cell. In some examples, the first cell may be associated with a first non-terrestrial device and the second cell may be associated with a second non-terrestrial device. In some examples, the first cell and the second cell may be associated with a common non-terrestrial device. The UE may calculate a propagation delay in accordance with a type of delay measurement and select a cell based on the propagation delay. The UE may calculate a propagation delay in accordance with a type of delay measurement and reselect a cell based on the propagation delay. In some examples, the propagation delay may be based on the first timing information and the second timing information.

In aspects of the present disclosure, a user equipment (UE) may report metrics (e.g., received signal power, beam identifier) about synchronization signal (SS) beams using the same (e.g., or a similar) framework that is used for channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) reporting. Because SSs are intended to be broadcast across a wide coverage area in a beamformed manner, the SSs represent a promising complement to existing beam management techniques. Accordingly, beam management may be achieved at least in part based on reporting one or more metrics of beamformed SSs through a channel feedback framework.

A communication system may include a user equipment (UE) that receives a configuration for contention-free random access (CFRA) and a configuration for contention-based random access (CBRA). The UE determines a first random access resource. The first random access resource maps to one or more beams from a target base station. The UE determines a beam quality associated with the first random access resource. The UE initiates a random access request using the CFRA when the first random access resource is a contention-free resource, and the beam quality of the first random access resource is above a threshold beam quality. The UE initiates the random access request using the CBRA when the first random access resource is the contention-free resource, and the beam quality of the first random access resource is below the threshold beam quality.
