摘要： An image fixing apparatus controls temperature of a rotating member for fixing with compensation for delay by using a Smith predictor with a controlled object model to reduce temperature ripple effectively. In one example, the image fixing apparatus includes a pair of rotating members to form a nip portion, a heater to heat the rotating member, a temperature sensor to detect temperature of the rotating member, a calculator to calculate a heat value to attain a target temperature of the rotating member, a controller to control the heater based on a calculation result of the heat value with compensation for delay using a model according to the calculation result, and a selector to select a control in which an output of the compensation is input into the calculator or a control in which the output of the compensation is not input into the calculator.

摘要： A fixing device includes a pair of rotating members, a heater, a detector, a calculator, a pulse width modulation circuit, and a controller. In at least one embodiment, the pair of rotating members is configured to fix a toner image on a recording medium. The heater is configured to heat at least one of the pair of rotating members to a process temperature when driven with an alternating current. The detector is configured to detect the process temperature. The calculator is configured to calculate an amount of heat to adjust the process temperature to a reference temperature. The pulse width modulation circuit is configured to generate a drive signal having a pulse width modulation cycle divided into first and second off times and an on time inserted therebetween. The controller is configured to control operation of the heater according to the drive signal.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a fixing device to fix a toner image on a recording medium by applying heat. Such a fixing device includes at least a magnetic flux generator, a heat generating roller, a magnetic shunt layer, and a protective layer. The magnetic flux generator is configured to generate magnetic flux. The heat generating roller including a heat generating layer is configured to generate heat by the magnetic flux. The magnetic shunt layer may be formed independently of the heat generating layer. The protective layer is provided on an inner surface of the magnetic shunt layer and configured to cover a crack formed in the magnetic shunt layer during fabrication of the magnetic shunt layer. An image is fixed onto the recording medium by the heat from the heat generating roller. Alternatively, the magnetic shunt layer may be integrally provided with the heat generating layer.

摘要： A fixing unit includes a rotatable fixing member and a rotatable pressure applying member. The rotatable fixing member has a heat generating layer to generate heat when subject to a magnetic flux. The rotatable pressure applying member contacts the rotatable fixing member and applies pressure to the fixing member. The rotatable fixing member and the rotatable pressure applying member form a nip therebetween, to which a recording medium is passed through to fix an image on the recording medium. The rotatable fixing member includes a magnetism regulating layer deformable when subject to pressure from the rotatable pressure applying member.

摘要： A fixing device includes a nip formation pad that presses against a pressure rotator via an endless belt to form a fixing nip between the belt and the pressure rotator, through which a recording medium bearing a toner image is conveyed. A fixing heater is disposed opposite at least a center span of a conveyance span of the belt in an axial direction thereof where the recording medium is conveyed to heat the belt. A first lateral end heater and a second lateral end heater are mounted on the nip formation pad and disposed opposite a first lateral end span and a second lateral end span of an inner circumferential surface of the belt in the axial direction thereof, respectively, to heat the belt. The second lateral end heater is electrically connected in series to the first lateral end heater.

摘要： A fixing device includes a heater to generate heat and a fixing rotator to rotate while contacting the heater. A pressure rotator presses against the heater via the fixing rotator to form a fixing nip between the fixing rotator and the pressure rotator, through which a recording medium bearing a toner image is conveyed. The heater includes an insulative substrate and a resistive heat generation layer mounted on the substrate. The resistive heat generation layer is disposed upstream from a center of the fixing nip in a recording medium conveyance direction.
