摘要： An electrophotographic image forming apparatus usable with process cartridges. The apparatus includes mounting portions for detachably mounting the cartridges. In each mounting portion, a cartridge is inclined downwardly from an upstream to a downstream side with respect to a mounting direction and a phantom plane passing through axes of the drums is inclined toward a downstream side with respect to the mounting direction from a bottom part to a top part of the phantom plane. Parts of cartridges mounted to a lower one and the next higher one of the mounting portions overlap, as seen along a plane perpendicular to the phantom plane from an upstream side with respect to the mounting direction. The apparatus also has a light projector and a feeder for feeding recording material, and the cartridges are mounted to or demounted from respective mounting portions from above the perpendicular plane.

摘要： An electrophotographic photosensitive drum supporting apparatus for rotatably supporting a photosensitive drum, the supporting apparatus having a first supporting member having a first hole for supporting one end of the drum, and a first and a second surfaces on one side and the other side relative to an imaginary plane passing through the axis of the drum, respectively, the first and second surfaces inclined with respect to the plane so as to contact with the drum and provided on the inner surface of the first hole, a second supporting member having a second hole for supporting the other end of the drum, and a third and a fourth surfaces on one side and the other side relative to the plane, respectively, the third and fourth surfaces inclined with respect to the plane so as to contact with the drum and provided on the inner surface of the second hole, and a plurality of process members provided in contact with the drum, wherein the direction of the resultant force of a force acting on the drum by the plurality of process members is a direction in which the drum is urged against the first and second inclined surfaces and against the third and fourth inclined surfaces.

摘要： A developing device is usable with an electrophotographic image forming apparatus including a shaft and a rotary unit mounting the device. When mounted, the device is movable perpendicular to a shaft axial direction in response to movement of the rotary unit and the shaft is not movable in that direction. The device includes a developing roller that contacts and separates from a drum in response to movement of the rotary unit, and a coupler transmitting a rotating force to the roller. The coupler includes a portion engaging the shaft to receive a rotating force and a portion transmitting the received rotating force to the roller. The coupler takes a first position for transmitting the rotational force to the roller, a position before the coupler engages the shaft and is inclined away from the first position, and a position for the disengagement of the coupler and the shaft.

摘要： A cartridge includes a coupling member for receiving a rotational force for rotating a developing roller. A cylindrical member movably supports one end portion of the coupling member inside of the cylindrical member. A cylindrical member side force receiving portion is provided inside the cylindrical member, with the cylindrical member side force receiving portion receiving the rotational force received by the coupling member. A first regulating portion is provided inside of the cylindrical member for preventing one end portion of the coupling member from disengaging in an axial direction of the cylindrical member. The first regulating portion is deformable outwardly in a radial direction of the cylindrical member so as to allow the one end portion of the coupling member to disengage in the axial direction of the cylindrical member.

摘要： An image forming apparatus forming an image on a recording material includes an image bearing member; a rotary rotatably provided in a main assembly of the apparatus; a locking member; and a developing cartridge detachably mounted to the rotary, wherein the developing cartridge includes a developer carrying member for developing a latent image formed on the image bearing member, a demountably mounted covering member for covering a surface of the developer carrying member, and an engaging portion which is movable between a first position in which it is projected beyond an outer surface of the covering member to engage with the main assembly locking member when the rotary is rotated in a forward direction which is a direction of rotation during image formation, and a second position in which it is retracted from the outer surface of the covering member.
