According to one aspect of the present invention, the portable handheld tester includes a connector to which various test cables can be removably connected to the tester. Detection circuitry within the tester determines which of several types of test cable is connected to the tester before testing.     摘要: A single input having multiple functions is provided. The single input having multiple functions may be used on off-board tools. In accordance with one embodiment, an off-board tool having a read/scroll actuator is provided. The read/scroll actuator, upon being actuated, performs either a read function or a scroll function. Another embodiment of an off-board tool having a display and capable of receiving information is provided. The off-board tool includes a contextual actuator having a first and a second mode. Actuation of the actuator in the first mode effectuates retrieval of information. Actuation of the actuator in the second mode effectuates display of at least a portion of the retrieved information. In accordance with another embodiment, an off-board device is provided. The off-board tool includes a display, read logic, scroll logic and a read/scroll actuator. Another embodiment of an off-board tool includes a display, a read means, a scroll means and a read/scroll means.

    摘要: A method of measuring a condition of a battery is disclosed comprising the steps of: inducing an AC signal across the terminals of the battery by applying an AC current load thereto; measuring the induced AC signal and converting it to a first voltage potential signal which is a measure of the battery's internal resistance; applying the first voltage potential signal across a voltage divider network calibrated in accordance with a predetermined battery rating scale to render a multiplicity of second voltage potential signals at a corresponding multiplicity of taps along the voltage divider network, values of the second voltage potential signals being representative of the calibrated battery rating scale; and sequentially selecting the second voltage potential signals along the taps for comparison with a threshold voltage potential signal to determine a measure of the condition of the battery. An electronic battery tester is also disclosed including a voltage divider network coupled across the first voltage potential signal and calibrated in accordance with a predetermined battery rating scale to create from the first voltage potential signal a multiplicity of second voltage potential signals at a corresponding multiplicity of taps along the voltage divider network, and a rotary switch for selecting the second voltage potential signal of the multiplicity of second voltage potential signals along the taps based on a predetermined battery rating of the battery under test for comparison with a threshold voltage potential signal to determine a condition of the battery.
