A drive wheel is coupled to the shaft and is coupled to a driven wheel by a drive belt. A tensioning system is shown coupled to the drive belt. The tensioning system has a first idler plate configured to bias a first idler pulley against the drive belt when the drive is rotating the shaft in the first direction and a second idler plate configured to bias a second idler plate against the drive belt when the drive is rotating the shaft in a second direction. A brake mechanism is further coupled to the tensioning system. The brake mechanism is configured to resist the rotation of the driven wheel.

摘要： A mower including a housing having a cutting apparatus such as a flail mower rotatably mounted therein. The mower includes a detector which determines during mower raising when the housing is positioned at least a predetermined distance above the ground surface directly below the housing. After passage of a time period during which the detector continuously detects that the housing is positioned at least the predetermined distance from the ground, a signal is sent to an actuator mechanism which interrupts the delivery of power to the motor rotating the cutting apparatus such that the flail mower comes to a stop. In one embodiment, a locking mechanism can be provided which prevents power from being reintroduced to the mower motor after the mower is lowered until the operator purposefully disengages the locking mechanism.

The mechanism can be used in a lawn mower, having traction motors supplied from one pump and motors driving the cutting cylinders supplied from a second pump, the rates of delivery of the pumps being kept in constant proportion to give a constant number of cuts per yard for the lawn mower.

Two driving wheels upon which the machine is supported are each provided with a braking mechanism and the braking mechanisms are coupled to respective handle bars. Steering of the machine is effected by rotating one handle bar to operate the associated braking mechanism. Braking is effected by rotating both handle bars together. A further control is mounted on the handle bars and can be operated whilst steering or braking.

摘要： A motor is clamped on a fixed shaft extending between the wheels of a lawn mower. A belt is entrained about both a drive or first pulley on the motor shaft and a driven or second pulley on a rotary reel shaft that also extends between the wheels. An idler pulley is mounted on a shaft attached to the outer housing or frame such that the belt may be tightened by adjusting the clamp that secures the motor to the fixed shaft. The second pulley can be drivingly attached to the reel shaft by various means such as radial set screws disposed in a hub of the pulley and/or a protuberance formed on the pulley for cooperative engagement with the cutting reel of the mower to thereby turn the shaft and reel. Two unidirectional clutches (a right and a left) are arranged and oriented such that reel rotation in a forward direction will drive the wheels in a forward direction.
