The method includes providing an elongated blade that is configured and arranged to be relatively flexible; and positioning the elongated blade between the first blade contacting structure and the second blade contacting structure such that the first blade contacting structure makes contact with a first surface of the elongated blade and the second blade contacting structure makes contact with a second surface of the elongated blade. The positioning step results in a plurality of bending forces being applied to the first and second surfaces of the elongated blade via the first and second blade contacting structures, thereby bending the elongated blade, and whereby the bending forces secure the elongated blade to the apparatus for cutting vegetation.

The reel cutting unit yaws during turns about a substantially vertical axis having a negative caster angle. The suspension has clamps that can be flipped open or closed to quickly attach or detach the reel cutting unit. A drive motor can be quickly attached or detached to the reel cutting unit using a pivotal wire form. An active counterbalance system automatically offsets the increasing weight of a grass basket on the reel cutting unit to maintain quality of cut. The grass basket maintains a constant spacing relative to the reel cutting unit when the reel cutting unit pitches to improve clipping collection.

The second sections are each disposed between pairs of first sections so as to have an alternation of first and second sections longitudinally along the rotor. Each section includes at least one supporting element for supporting at least one processing tool configured for cooperating with the terrain via a rotation of the rotor for processing the terrain and corresponding vegetation and rocks present therein. First longitudinal gaps are defined between pairs of adjacent first sections, and second longitudinal gaps are defined between pairs of adjacent second sections, and the supporting elements and corresponding processing tools of these sections are shaped, positioned and sized within their respective sections so that the longitudinal gaps are smaller than longitudinal thicknesses of the corresponding processing tools so that rocks present in the terrain to be processed by the shredder head are impacted either by processing tools of adjacent sections or by processing tools of a same given section, so as to decrease average impact forces of the rocks per processing tool of the shredder head. The shredder head is also advantageous in that it is configured to be able to change the nature of the processing tools used therewith, without having to change the rotor or the corresponding supports of the processing tools.
