Abstract: A sheet-medium-conveying device includes a tray, a conveying unit, a detecting unit, a determining unit, and a reference value changing unit. A plurality of sheets to be conveyed are settable on the tray. The conveying unit conveys the sheets on the tray. The measuring unit measures a quantity with respect to the sheet conveyed by the conveying unit. The detecting unit detects an overlapped feed in which at least two sheets are conveyed in a partially overlapped condition. The overlapped feed is detected by comparing the quantity measured by the measuring unit with a reference value. The determining unit is configured to determine whether a type of sheet conveyed by the conveying unit is changed. The reference value changing unit is configured to change the reference value to a value corresponding to the changed type of sheet as determined by the determining unit.

Abstract: A technique of processing images previously-formed on first and second opposite sides of a document is disclosed. The technique includes: reading the images on the document at a reading position by scan; transporting the document such that the first side is moved facing the reading position, and, after the first side is read, the second side is moved facing the reading position; and controlling at least one of a start-of-reading timing of the first side and a start-of-reading timing of the second side, such that a relationship between the start-of-reading timing of the first side and the start-of-reading timing of the second side varies, depending on whether or not an extension direction of a binding edge along which the document is to be bound is parallel to a document orientation in which a length of the document is oriented with respect to a transport direction of the document being transported.

Abstract: In a document feeder, a driving control unit feeds a document by a switch-back feeding unit, guides again the document from a document feed path to a bidirectional feed path, and then discharges the document from the document feed path to a document discharging section, when the feeding of the document is in a double-sided scanning feeding mode and in a status during first side feeding. The driving control unit feeds the document by the switch-back feeding unit and then discharges the document from the document feed path, when the feeding of the document is in the double-sided scanning feeding mode and in the status during second side feeding. The driving control unit discharges the document from the document feed path without feeding the document in the switch-back manner, when the feeding of the document is in the double-sided scanning feeding mode and after the second side feeding.
