    Abstract: A rotating stream sprinkler of the type having a rotatable vaned deflector for stepwise sweeping of relatively small water streams over surrounding terrain to irrigate adjacent vegetation. The sprinkler includes a turbine driven ball drive rotor having at least one drive ball carried by centrifugal force into repetitious impact engagement with one or more raised anvils on the deflector for incrementally displacing the deflector in a succession of small rotational steps. A speed control brake includes a brake pad interposed between a friction surface on the deflector and a nonrotating brake disk to provide a variable friction force to maintain deflector rotation substantially constant within a range of normal water supply pressures and flow rates.

    Abstract: A sprinkler head having a deformable member forming a collar is disclosed. The deformable member allows the sprinkler head to resist entry of foreign grit or matter within the sprinkler head, and allows the sprinkler head to eject or force out foreign matter from within the sprinkler head. The sprinkler head may be a spinning sprinkler head including a vane deflector, and the spinning sprinkler head may include a portion that shifts in response to being struck by water such that a braking mechanism is engaged in response to the force of the water. When water flow ceases, the spinning head may shift towards the deformable member so that a portion of the spinning head is received within the deformable member to restrict foreign matter from entering the sprinkler head.

The sprinkler includes a nozzle which couples to a fluid conduit, a rotary deflector positioned downstream from the nozzle and within the atmosphere, an electric generator coupled to the rotary deflector, and a frame coupling the nozzle to the electric generator. The rotary deflector rotates about an axis as a fluid stream exiting the nozzle contacts and sprays from the rotary deflector. The rotary deflector and the rotor of the electric generator are coupled to a common axial shaft such that rotations of the rotary deflector translate to rotations of the rotor.

    Abstract: A sprinkler head includes a base adapted to be secured to a component supplying water under pressure; an arc adjustment ring rotatably mounted on the base; a nozzle and a stream deflector supported by an elongated stem carried by the base, the nozzle and the stream deflector cooperating to define an adjustable nozzle orifice; a water distribution plate secured to a shaft in the stem and located downstream of the nozzle; the stem and the nozzle axially movable relative to the base; and a drive train operatively connected between the arc adjustment ring and the nozzle to rotate the nozzle relative to the stream deflector to thereby adjust the nozzle orifice between a pair of limit positions. The stem is rotatable within the base upon over-rotation of the arc adjustment ring beyond either of the pair of limit positions. The sprinkler head also incorporates a throttle control member secured to an upstream end of the shaft such that rotation of the shaft causes the throttle control member to move axially relative to a flow restriction seat portion, to thereby adjust flow rate through the nozzle, the throttle control member engageable with the seat in a maximum restriction position; and means for permitting rotation of the throttle control member with the shaft upon over-rotation of the shaft.

    Abstract: A rotary sprinkler comprises a body and a rotor. The body has an inlet bore, an outlet bore, and an internal cavity therebetween. The inlet bore has an upstream end connectable to a water supply pipe and a downstream end formed as a jet nozzle. The outlet bore has an upstream end with a rim. The rotor has an axially extending shaft with an axial shaft channel and at least one vane with a vane channel extending away from the shaft and having an outlet constituting an outlet of the sprinkler. The shaft channel and the vane channel define a smooth water flow passage having an open cross-section. The shaft is inserted in the outlet bore of the body to enable free rotation of the rotor. The sprinkler further comprises a retaining ring that is assembled to the upstream end of the shaft of the rotor, is disposed in the internal cavity of the sprinkler body, and is adapted to abut the rim of the outlet bore, thereby carrying axial forces applied to the rotor.

The center body has an end wall formed with a post extending toward and received within a cavity of a lower spool bearing component of the spool bearing assembly when the rotor plate is in an at-rest position, thereby creating an unstable arrangement causing the rotor plate to tilt to an off-center position. The lower spool bearing component is comprised of a relatively heavy material for balancing the rotor plate and the spool bearing assembly about a center of nutation.
