Abstract:
A plating barrel is constructed of a perforated cylindrical side section clamped between a pair of end plates. The end plates are provided with positioning grooves that receive edge portions of the side section. Each end plate includes a plurality of concentric grooves so that the same end plates may be used with side sections of different diameters. The barrel is rotatably mounted on a support disposed within a seamless tank containing a plating bath. The support has adjustable upstanding arms which rotatably support the barrel and permit the height thereof to be adjusted for controlling the extent to which the barrel is immersed in the plating bath, with such adjustment being dictated in part by the extent of the areas to be plated and the number of work pieces in the barrel.
Abstract:
A machine for trimming edges from a sheet of copy and for applying adhesive to a back face of the sheet. The sheet crosses an entry table and is guided to a backup roll. Spaced knives trim edges of the sheet as the sheet passes over the backup roll. The trimmed sheet is received by a guide which directs the sheet to an adhesive applying roll. A metering blade controls the amount of adhesive on the adhesive applying roll. The guide rests on the backup roll and on the metering blade, and the metering blade directs the sheet to the adhesive applying roll so that the trimmed sheet receives adhesive on a back face thereof.
Abstract:
A system for uniformly applying adhesive to a base material comprising a plurality of spaced-apart filaments which are continuously moving forwardly in contact with an applicator roll disposed above a reservoir of liquid adhesive with a portion of the roll surface disposed beneath the surface of the adhesive so that the roll picks up a layer of adhesive on its surface as it is rotated and transfers adhesive to the base material, including a metering bar cooperating with the applicator roll to define a metering nip in which the thickness of the adhesive layer on the applicator roll surface is uniformly established, the metering bar being cooled sufficiently below ambient temperature to cause condensation of moisture on the bar and preclude build-up of solidified adhesive on the bar thereby preventing accumulation of adhesive such as would disrupt the uniformity of the adhesive layer established in the metering nip. The system also includes doctor blade means having a deformable doctoring surface for removing residuary adhesive from the roll surface in a region ahead of the region where the roll surface enters the liquid adhesive.
